Mistakes Collectors Make

The owner of Laurent FineWatches makes a great point about watch collectors accumulating too many watches in the beginning, but there are many reasons as to why collectors of all things ranging from baseball cards to cars buy the things they do so quickly. Collectors of all types tend to refine their collections and taste as time goes on. Evolving tastes is a sign of maturity when a collector is moving to the next stage. For starters, it's very easy to impulse buy because you see something that is just beautiful. There is nothing wrong with buying watches that are appealing to you, but there's thousands of beautiful watches to fall in love with. "Getting high off your own supply" is a saying I use a lot because as a dealer, I am guilty of keeping too many watches in my personal collection. Another factor that collectors make the mistake of doing is buying into the hype of the popular/ most sought after models that everyone and their mother wants. It's ok to want those watches (I want them too), but there is nothing wrong with experimenting and trying different brands that aren't in the current spotlight. There is so much value to be had in the vintage watch world that buyers need to start looking at.
