Missionaries or Mercenaries

Whenever there is a war or a devastating event there are both Missionaries and Mercenaries.
There are many businesses doing it very tough at the moment, however there are others that are prospering! (Especially the ones that sell or supply toilet paper, hand sanitizer, soap or vitamins)
I’m hoping some local food producers are reaping some rewards too! I saw on the news last night Domino's Pizza price went up!
The word “Mercenaries†should be reserved for those who hike up the prices and take advantage of our most vulnerable.
So I’ve decided there is room for another word “Opportunistsâ€
As business owners now is the time to reflect on our current operations and offerings and diversify our businesses to where the demand is.
It was Einstein who said “ The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different resultâ€
I feel the same thing can be said for Tradition as outlined below and Nostalgia also.
Are these emotions / sentiments that make us stay in the past keeping us from what we should be doing?
For those of you who do not know me I own a global mobility company Aussie OS Global Mobility Services and a real estate business Mi Casa Property Boutique.
I’m not going to lie .... This is a very tough and uncertain time for my industry especially as we have just come out of a 5 year recession in this State! Property prices are still low but we have been relived to see the vacancy rate fall.
I am currently rolling out our relocation services / courses at AussieOS.com.au virtually as we specialise in specialist workers coming to Australia and finding / supplying them accommodation, schooling and cultural training.
However this will be short lived as much of our work has been cancelled or postponed. The 20 plus calls I have had with Airbnb owners and those in the hospitality industry highlights this.
When it comes to real estate - property management goes on as normal - we are just delaying inspections and have put practices in place to keep social distance at sales and rental viewings .... but I worry about what will be the ongoing effects going forward if tenants can not pay rents and houses sit on the market while everyone waits.
Therefore I am focused on being the “opportunist†to ensure I can keep my employees employed.
I am currently finalising the roll out of the below services.
1. Online coaching/ consulting for employers to manage their remote workforce.
2. Offering online virtual ergonomic assessments for remote workers.
3. Offering one-on one-online consultations and webinars to Managers and individuals focusing on keeping employees working remotely healthy, productive and engaged.
4. Online needs analysis consultation/webinars . Thinking about a move to Australia? A Guide to Living and working in Australia.
Please remember there has never been a better time to live in the most remote city in the world that is so resources and primary industries rich!
WA is Utopia.
And if we can work together to cut through the overwhelm towards opportunity this may all hopefully be short term pain for long term gain.
Im hoping this opportunity will give us the reason to activate and create new industries in WA.
Starting by having the time to reassess how we feed and supply ourselves and the world.
There has very been a more important time to innovate and buy local.
I am really interested to hear what other businesses are doing to diversify? Please comment below.
