Mission Amrit Sarovar was launched on 24th April 2022 by prime minister Narendra Modi with a view to conserve water for the future, the initiative mission to aimed at developing and rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district of India to overcome the water crisis in rural areas as a part of celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Having constructed 8,462 Amrit Sarovar Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the state with the best implementation of prime minister Narendra Modi’s “mission Amrit Sarovar’’ with up ranked first, Madhya Pradesh is second followed by Jammu and Kashmir in third place Rajasthan in fourth and Tamil Nadu in the fifth.

The mission is boosting rural livelihood as the completed water bodies been identified for activities like irrigation of water chestnut and animal husbandry. The mission also aims at qualitative implementation and development of Amrit Sarovar as a hub of local community activities and convergence with different ministries for Amrit Sarovar works

Till now around 40,000 water bodies have been developed under the mission Amrit Sarovar in the last 11 months achieving around 80 percent of the target under the scheme. The total number of Amrit Sarovar to be developed under the scheme is around 50,000 which was set to be completed by august this year.
