Mission Accomplished!
My year on the Board of Directors of the Punta Gorda Historical Society has come to an end, and I'm very glad to report that through the Association of Realtors a new metal roof has been planned, permitted, and completed on the Trabue House. This historic house is located in the History Park, 501 Shreve Sreet, Punta Gorda. The house was the original Land Sales Office for the town of Trabue which was later changed to Punta Gorda. It seems fitting that Realtors would assist to preserve the first "Real Estate Office" and they did!
The History Park is open to the public and lovely to walk through anytime. There are planned events offered by the Historical Society, or the weekly market on Sunday mornings. There are other historic houses in the park, an old jail caboose, many varieties of tropical foliage identified, and benches under the oaks and bamboo. Sit for a moment and a butterfly may land near you.
When you visit the Trabue House, stop in to see the original crafts offered for sale and pick up a brochure about the Punta Gorda Historical Society. My guess is that you will be charmed by what you see, and that you will want to join in the preservation of Punta Gorda's local history.
