Missing those little conversations at the office
In the past, I felt like I worked for a corporation - it was small when I joined, but grew to over 3,500 people. When I left, I didn't feel like I was making an impact any more. Then I found Blast.
Being a great place to work has always been a priority. It is our #1 reason why we exist, but beyond the official certification, Blast has always shared the importance of work-life balance. Actually, I'll rephrase that as simply "life balance." Work is part of life.
Part of that balance is the flexibility of where we work. I spent nearly 15 years straight working at home before I came to Blast. It's been nice to actually have an office to go to. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the benefits of being home, too - more family time, spend less on gas, etc.)
Yesterday, I went to the office and my VP stopped in for a bit. We had an impromptu 5-min chat about work. It made an impact - more than the typical progress updates - a real gem, and it wouldn't have happened if we were not both there. It was serendipitous.
I think that's what I miss most - those little conversations that don't happen when you spend all day at home.
What about you?
P.S. If you're wondering why I chose that picture, it's because that's another thing I enjoy about working from home - I have some of my favorite LEGO sets on a shelf in my home office. #LEGOlife
