Missing Logos: Why does it matter?

First impressions are made in a matter of seconds and based on minimal cues. So, when communicating our brand online, paying attention to the “little things” makes sense. Because logos associated with the places we have worked and attended school are part of our credibility, the absence of a logo in our Experience, Education or Volunteer sections is perceived negatively.
As many people have one or more missing logos, and logos may be missing for several reasons, I will devote several issues of my #littlelinkedinlesson newsletter to it. In this first article I discuss how to correct a logo that is missing for the simplest of reasons: misspelling.
Is a logo missing due to misspelling?
Misspelling the name of the company or institution of higher learning often accounts for a logo not showing up on someone's LinkedIn profile. I've seen Pepperdine University spelled with two rather than three "p's," Fluor Corporation spelled like a baking ingredient, and Medtronic spelled with a final "s." None of these errors will yield a logo for your profile. So, my first suggestion is that you look at your spelling. Look up the company or institution's name on Google if you're just not sure.
If a misspelling is the problem, the solution is to delete the organization's name from your profile and re-enter it slowly, watching the dropdown menu that will appear at the left of your screen for the organization's name and logo. Select the organization from the dropdown menu and the logo and name will appear on your profile.
And if that is not the reason your missing logo doesn't show up, watch for upcoming articles in this series. Of course, some organizations simply don't have logos in LinkedIn's database.?You’ll just have to do without them. But by making sure you’ve claimed all the logos you can, you will minimize the toll that the lack of logos can take on your personal eminence.
Savvy executives know that even small things – like logos – are important to the way others perceive them.

1 年Not all small companies do social media as part of their business practices or have a dedicated employee for social media. Small companies don't always have the bandwidth, but that's not a reflection of the quality work of the company's employees. Having worked for small companies where this is the case, I would offer to invite to consider leading with positive intention.

1 年Thank you, Carol! The small things, like linking to a logo have a big impact. Without the logo, I wonder about the ability of the individual to complete a task and complete it well. It could be a reflection of how they approach their work. This is just one little thing to tighten up.
