The Missing Link.

The Missing Link.

Last week, I spoke about finding your purpose.

I don’t have it figured out, but the process of doing that is one that I find so interesting.

Everyone wants to discover their purpose, but I’ve discovered that there is a missing link.

Something people don’t talk about enough.

Capacity.

Imagine handing a 10-year-old the keys to a Ferrari.

They might be excited, but they lack the skill, wisdom, and discipline to handle it.

Purpose is the same way.

Many people discover their purpose, but they don’t have the weight to sustain it.

So, what happens?

  • They collapse under the pressure.
  • They fumble opportunities.
  • They self-sabotage.

Not because they aren’t talented or called to do great things—but because they never took the time to build the capacity for what they were meant to do.

Read that again.

How then do you build capacity for purpose?

  1. Develop Mastery in Your Craft.

It’s not enough to have a vision—you need skill to execute it. You need competence.

If you feel drawn toward something, study it deeply.

  • Read books.
  • Take courses.
  • Seek mentors.
  • Do the hard work when no one is watching.

Your purpose will demand excellence from you and you have to be ready.

Unfortunately, society isn’t helping.

I remembered one time a so-called expert kept promoting how easily he completed a task, with no prior knowledge.

For the longest time, I believed I didn’t have to do much as things would just come easy.

Mediocrity was my second name.

It took me a while to realize that you need to develop a mindset of excellence to be successful at something.

Like, really successful.

After all, you don’t start preparing for battle on the battlefield, do you?

Take a minute to picture it.

You might slash a few enemies, but you definitely won’t be winning that battle.

2. Strengthen Your Mindset

The weight of purpose will test you.

There will be setbacks. Rejections. Moments of doubt.

If you don’t build mental resilience, you’ll give up too soon. That’s just the fact.

We like to give ourselves too much credit.

We’re not that strong. We’re only as strong as our mind is. that means if your mind is weak, little things will get to you. Little things will make you give up. And you don’t want that, do you?

I definitely do not.

How then, do you work on that?

  • Learn how to embrace failure as part of the process.
  • Train your mind to focus on long-term vision, not short-term struggles.
  • Surround yourself with people who challenge you to think bigger.

3. Build Emotional and Spiritual Stamina.

Purpose isn’t just about doing—it’s about being.

You need emotional intelligence to handle the people, challenges, and responsibilities that come with purpose.

And let’s be honest—sometimes, the journey of purpose is lonely.

Most times, actually.

That’s why you need a deep well—something bigger than yourself to draw from.

Whether that’s faith, meditation, or personal reflection, cultivate inner strength.

I strongly recommend faith.

Drawing strength from something bigger and stronger than you is the best way to keep going.

4. Learn to Manage Resources

Money. Time. Energy. Connections.

Purpose isn’t just a calling—it’s also a responsibility.

  • Learn how to manage money wisely.
  • Be intentional with your time.
  • Invest in relationships that align with your vision.

Without resource management, even the greatest purpose will struggle to stay afloat.

?

5. Take Action Before You Feel Ready.

Too many people sit on their purpose because they don’t feel qualified.

Okay, let’s assume you now know what you want to do for the rest of your life.

That doesn’t change anything.

Because the truth is: You’ll never feel 100% ready.

But you have to start anyway.

  • Start where you are.
  • Use what you have.
  • Build as you go.

Capacity isn’t built by waiting. It’s built by doing.

I learned this the hard way.

And unfortunately, I think a lot of people are yet to.

You need to start! Even if it doesn’t make sense, just start.

You want things to change yeah? But then, how will you know what’s wrong, or what you could do more of if you don’t start?

We need to master the act of starting messily.

I’ll make a total entry about this topic.

I love it so much.

I mean, take babies, for example, they start messily till they become good.

This is your first time existing also, why do you think you need to have everything figured out from the start?

Why do you ignore the place of building capacity?

?

So let me ask you—

Are you building the strength to carry what’s meant for you?

?

Let’s discuss.

I’ll be here next Sunday with another entry.

P.S. If you haven’t subscribed yet, what are you waiting for?

Truely insightful and thoughtful!!! Ireloluwa Akinola I absolutely loved the way you penned your thoughts down?? And especially the way you wrote about purposes carrying weight and people loosing before even trying as they think they are not fit for the particular position.Yes one need to atleast give it a shot, trying and loosing is way better than having regrets later. And I firmly believe that even if one looses, it is definitely not going to get in vain. Maybe it becomes a stepping stone for him for something bigger or maybe it teaches him how to carry out things the other time.

Right. It doesn't manifest out of void. Out of the blues. It emerges as you go on to get messy.
