"The Missing Element in Your CXO Aspirations"?

"The Missing Element in Your CXO Aspirations"

I got a call from a senior professional working as Head IT for an MNC and had been working in the same company for many years. He is very passionate about his work and has a strong technical background, but still he is one level below that CXO title.

He discussed this concern with me and put across his thoughts. He had the same experience and technical skills as the current CXOs, but he still felt like something was missing. He didnt had an answer of why is he not still a CTO.

And I am sure many of you also have this question striking your mind. You have all the technical knowledge, are experienced, and have been in the industry growing up the ladder for many years but still this title seems far off.

WHY????

Here are some professional tips for professionals aspiring to be CXOs in their next career move:

  • Don't evaluate a CXO position based solely on domain expertise. What sets CXOs apart is their thought leadership - the way they think, plan, and strategize the business.
  • Understand that you and the current CXO may have similar experience and technical skillsets, but what sets them apart is their ability to make decisions even when under pressure or distractions.
  • If you possess the same zeal and drive as a CXO but are not yet in that position, the missing element may be Branding. You need to build an image of a real thought leader, and make sure people understand your business acumen beyond just your current job title.
  • Start building your personal brand by showcasing your thought leadership on relevant topics through blogs, social media, or speaking engagements. Make sure your profile reflects your business expertise and accomplishments.
  • Network with other CXOs and industry leaders to learn from their experiences and gain insights into the latest trends and challenges.
  • Finally, focus on developing your leadership skills by taking on new responsibilities, coaching and mentoring others, and demonstrating a track record of success in driving business results.

Let's Join Hands and let me hand hold you to your next CXO Title gracefully. :)
