Miss, Miss, Miss, HIT

This is the month when we hang a new calendar and hope for a fresh start. I hear a lot of “new year, new me” comments, then see many of us fall back into the same old routine(s). Many will set new year “resolutions” that fail as soon as they are set. If that is you, then I would like to share with you what I found to be successful and maybe you will find some inspiration in this approach to the “new year”.

In the age of comparisons and keeping up with the Joneses’, in the immediate gratification era, rampant attention deficits, dopamine phone scrolling and the failure and give up or cancel mindset. It is easy to become frustrated with the world around us. Until one realizes that the things outside our scope of control really don’t matter much. What others are choosing to do is not up to us. If we cannot control it, or influence it, then we must ask ourselves two questions. First, “what or whom are we choosing to spend our limited time, energy, and resources on? Second, do these people or things bring us joy or add value?”

This year, I am not setting a new year’s resolution, but I am taking the daily challenge of learning. What did I learn from yesterday? and how can I become a better version of myself today?

This year, some days will suck, they will be challenging. Some days I will be a horrible version of myself, other days I will thrive, learn, grow and adapt. That is life.

Ben Franklin had a simple strategy to start with yourself; spend some quite time alone, find yourself, dedicate time to learn, schedule downtime daily (turn off your phones and screens), and NOT aim for perfection! What matters most isn’t perfection, it’s improvement. As Franklin once said “I was surprised to find myself much fuller of faults than I had imagined, but I had the satisfaction of seeing them diminish” ?

I cannot wait to fail, come up short of my goals, learn, grow, adapt, and become a better version of myself tomorrow. Simply surround yourself with good people, make others feel good around you, and spread a little bit of peace love and joy this year. We all need a bit more grace and space in 2023. And all of us can become better versions of ourselves.

Enjoy the failures of yesterday and make tomorrow a better day today.?
