Tumhe kya problem hai ? Thode sexy kapde pehen lena… deal to tumhaari hi hai.
It was being said as a joke …or was it really?
Though everyone was laughing I could see the humiliation in one set of eyes and the triumph in another.
Difficult to admit but this kind of workplace sexism or misogyny exists in most of the workplaces even today and women have to face it on a regular basis. It may be blatantly demeaning and insulting sometimes or disguised as care and benevolence at other times.?But, in any form, it does have long-term effects on the person facing it.
Let me share a few examples of workplace sexism or misogyny so that we understand its various forms at workplace.??
???Disguising insults as humour - Just as I said in the beginning of the article. Insults will be said as a joke, people around will be quick to laugh, and female colleagues will be left wondering if they are overreacting.
???Stereotyping Roles – Automatically expecting female colleagues to organize parties or serve food when there is a party without even asking or consulting them.
???Commenting on appearance – Often there is more focus on what a female colleague is wearing to work or her physical appearance rather than her abilities or performance.
???Gender Labelling – Quick to call a woman colleague bossy or a bitch if she is assertive but if a man is rude …it is ok for him.

???Mansplaining – Devaluing a female colleague’s opinion or overexplaining things to her.
You might say that I never indulge in any form of sexism explained above but whether we are facing sexism or doing nothing when others are facing it we are equally at fault. So, let us work towards ending this sexism and make a difference at our workplace by
??Speaking out when we see sexism taking place at our workplace
??Ensuring equal contributions are welcomed in our teams
??Allowing everyone to talk in meetings wheherever we
??Questioning your own assumptions and beliefs
??Double checking how we talk and if we make sexist jokes
??Looking out for stereotypes
?A workplace is meant to be a safe space for all genders to get their jobs done. Sexism against any gender in the workplace should be met with strict consequences. It is important that each one of us contributes to bring an end to its existence.

3 年Well said Ritu..these kinds of people generally create differences between the employees and downgrade their morale which in turn leads to the downfall of their efficiencies ..I hope u agree with this
