Mirror, mirror on the wall...

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

It was very recently that my brain cells were triggered for a treasure hunt within. I started a brand-new journey almost as to seek myself. This was much different from the one I embarked upon 3 years ago on a spiritual level. This time the only difference was that I have a mentor who is present and available to answer in the physical. The journey to become a coach started because I was looking at possibilities to enhance my skill sets and evolve everyday in my thought process.

I would like to believe that all of us have beautiful minds. Each of us are capable of identifying the resources within and to work them around in favor of any given situation. In a busy world, where words have given way to images and the sounds of expressions surrender to scrolling on screen seeking mindless engagement or a mere escape from boredom, the role of an individual who can listen without judgement or vested interest is invaluable. This understanding is probably what sparked an interest in me trying to get my coach certification this year and I am excited.

I was asked to come up with a metaphor for coaching and after some pondering, I stumbled upon the word ‘reflection’ that has been a loyal friend to me since my management training days at the Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development. Reflection is something I started to do back then and worked my way over the years. I have found self-reflecting to be of utmost sanity in moments where you feel inadequate or restless due to circumstances or lack of clarity on how to deal with it.

So why the mirror?

While the fairytale Snow-white gave us an enchanted mirror that tells the truth, any mirror which is capable of reflection does just that- it simply reflects what is in front of it, exactly the way it is meant to be seen. In my mind the idea of a coach is just that- reflect to create awareness which leads to conscious choices. Life is a product of choices we make every day and what a pleasure it will be to have a choice made out of sheer awareness that will lead you to become your best self yet. The self-perception we strongly hold essentially determine what we become. A coach helps you to see that self-perception and allows you the leverage to adjust that crease, stand a little straighter and even find beauty in the flaws; for to hold oneself in the most authentic way is the biggest gift of them all!
