mirror, mirror on the wall
What do I see in my reflection? This is perhaps one of the most enriching and at the same time strongest exercises that anyone can do. Describing what you see in the mirror, without judgment, from your perspective... from your vision. Often, when I look in the mirror, I like to find that sparkle in my eyes, because it reminds me so much of when I was a child, curious and easy going.
I have always thought that adults grow out of being children too quickly. Personally, I try to maintain some things about myself from when I was a child, like wonder. I like to find something that excites me so much that I want to do it over and over again. Perhaps that's why I am so anxious and curious. I love discovering new things, connecting with people who help me feed that curiosity, doing things for the first time, visiting new places, learning about new cultures, in short... everything that keeps me interested and motivated. In fact, curiosity and creativity are my day-to-day at work.
Now, the above is one side of the reflection... but what do I reflect? How do other people see me? Someone once told me that human beings can identify themselves through the "reflection" in others, "I am because I recognize myself in you," from the most basic things like physical appearance, culture, geography, to personality, values, empathy and perspective on life. During our journey, we collect connections with people, places, music, and experiences with which we recognize ourselves and that is where the connection occurs, the reflection of oneself, in that other person.
So, Could a connection be stronger when what we see in our reflection is the same as what the person sees in us? What do you think?
