The Mirror and the Mind
Time inures the mind but racks the body
Thought maintains the brightness of youth but the mirror betrays
Who will win the struggle for the soul?
The constant strain of the ruck, the tenseness of the night patrol-the thoughts of endless youth
The light of life and the glow of remembrance
The lines and charts of nature’s ravagements abound in the mirror’s shine
As do the thoughts of the youth that brought them there
The mirror and the mind
The ying and yang of life
At times, the beckoning form on the hill-blowing a cold wind and wearing a coal black shroud
Always beckoning
The competing light is the sunshine and warmth of our souls
Fueled by recall of moments and remembrances of associations
Always fresh in thought if gone to time
Then and now
They would be missed
Best to hold the line
Betray the darkness
Embrace the light
Hold the line
As you once did, and now must do
The constant battle of the mirror and the mind

Ranger Nightingale, did you hear about the Illinois state university in Chicago that denied admission to a US Army Combat Engineer Decorated Veteran 21 times? Reason: Too much decision-making skills derided from the Army Corps of Engineers. Maybe the Veteran should have gone back into the Army as an Engineering Officer.
