It is a story from a few decades ago and pretty much relevant even today. I was visiting a distant cousin of mine who before going for a party stood in front of the mirror and looked at his rumpled hair. He combed them and gave a smile to himself.
After a couple of hours I met him outside our club gate. He was going in as I was going out. I found his hair rumpled pointed to him. He snubbed me there and then. He hadn't like my pointing out a flaw of his.
Well, many a decade passed, yet I found such behaviour from people pretty often and why, I was no exception.
And then a couple of years back I found this quote :
“Most people like mirrors; what they do not like, is people, who are mirrors.” ― Justin K. McFarlane Beau ( source: Internet)
How true!!! It fitted what I had observed and experienced in some inexplicable moments so many decades ago and perhaps many more times thereafter. I learned that I should never try to be a mirror for anyone. Yes, I may help a person overcome some draw-back after s/he becomes aware of it. I need not show it to them.
This one lesson changed many a relationship and many other related aspects in my life..
I am grateful to have come across this wonderful thought and understood.
Stay blessed. Tell me if you liked reading this short anecdote.

8 年Wonderful quote used in the post. It's Very true that one does not like others to point out flaws. As humans , we always yearn for appreciation , positive feedback and others talking good about us. Even kids find it hard to digest shortcomings being pointed out. Rightly said , one may accept the offer to overcome the drawback it it is not termed as a shortcoming , but an area to further strengthen. Nice of you to share
