Miracle machines: already created the first unmanned grocery store on wheels

Hello everybody. We continue publications about miracle machines.

Today we introduce you new development in the automotive industry, IT and retail.

In the USA, the first unmanned grocery store on wheels has already been created.

More recently, at the Consumer Electronics Show, debuted a self-driving, nearly fully autonomous grocery store on wheels. The robot will bring fruits, vegetables, and other perishable items from the supermarket aisle to customers' doors.

The creators of this novelty found that about 60% of the products sold are perishable goods, but the online segment sells less than 5% of such products because the delivery of such products is expensive, and buyers prefer to choose for themselves such products.

According to the company's survey, more than 85% of Americans surveyed at the age of 26-44 do not buy fruits and vegetables for these reasons, but 65% of them said they would call the Robomart van more than once a week.

Van "Robomart" is a fully autonomous vehicle, in which the entire internal volume is fully used for food (cooled and isolated from the environment).

The size of this van is a size of a Sprinter van equipped with LiDAR, radar, and cameras.

It is charged by means of wireless charging stations, which the wagons find themselves. At full charge, the van can travel 130 km (80 miles) with a maximum speed of 40 km / h (25 mph). Robomart uses a hardware platform from NVIDIA and its own software.

How it all works: the buyer clicks a button in the mobile application of the phone and calls the nearest van to his own home.

Closest robot is arrive with packed fresh produce to buyer's home.

Then, with the help of the same application, the client opens the shop door on the wheels, selects the products and tells the system about the completion of the shopping. Robomart uses the patented technology "grab and go" to track what and how much the customer took from the shelves, form an account and send it to the customer for online payment. The creators have not yet disclosed information about the cost of delivering products using Robomart

The startup has already assembled the first prototype, which was shown under CES 2018.

The company has applied for an Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and plans to launch a pilot program by summer 2018.

Soon, a pilot testing program is expected to be launched in San Francisco, in which a number of food retailers will participate - they will have access to all analytics and sales data.
