Introduction:

Thank you to all those who attended in person or online. My apologies for the audio on the Zoom hook-up – I know how distracting that can be. NECA has good quality audio in that room, and I will ensure that at the next meeting the technology is working. (There may have been some user error on my part)

In the last 2 months, we have gathered a group of people from the industry that are aligned by wanting to work together to solve some of the challenges we are all facing. These challenges fall into three key areas: People, Safety, and Community. We have a clear set of objectives, but we are yet to form a clear path to achieving them.

Our Objectives:

1.??????Growing a smart well-trained workforce

2.??????Keeping our workforce safe – Safer. Simpler

3.??????Support the people and businesses in the industry

How do we achieve this?

Step 1: Organise the team. There are few people that have indicated their desire to contribute already, and I welcome any further contributions and ideas. A small working group must prepare a plan to present to a wider audience. I will take the lead in preparing this plan with input from the members of the group.

Step 2: Verify the immediate requirements of the industry. Below is a list of some of the specific requirements that were expressed at the last meeting. A survey will go out to gather more information from more people. The more specific this is the more likely we are to meet those requirements.

Step 3: Prioritise the initiatives. We can’t boil the ocean. What should we tackle first, second and third?

?

Step 4: Document a plan for the establishment of this industry group.

The plan will cover the following:

1.??????Objectives

2.??????Structure

a.??????Legal

b.??????People

c.??????Financial

3.??????Key Initiatives – a phased approach to prioritise the key initiatives

a.??????Initiative (eg: establish a pipeline of comms apprentices of X people over 3 years)

b.??????Business case for each initiative

c.??????Key steps for delivering the outcome

d.??????Resources required – What will it cost? Whom do we need?

e.??????The business case for the initiative

4.??????Funding – how we fund these initiatives needs to be solved. This could be a combination of membership fees and sponsorship and we should explore government programs/grants etc.

Step 5: Present to plan to the group. At this point, we will have some action required from everyone. Essentially if you think the objectives are aligned with your business and you think that together we can deliver on these then you’ll need to make a commitment of some sort.

Next Action:

1.????Enter your specific requirements and rank the initiatives: https://forms.office.com/r/kXvDVwjZtw

2.????Attend the next meeting: Tuesday 20th Sep – details at the top of this document

3.????Spread the word – send this to as many people as you can think of

4.????Email me or call to help put the plan together

Thanks

Peter Wesley
