In a Minute… Carry On Packing

How to pack like a boss when you can only take hand luggage on your lengthy business trip.

You want to travel cheaper, faster and easier (or you don’t have a choice) but how to make sure you’re not going to be caught short at the other end? Especially on those pesky airlines that don’t let you have a bag for under the seat as well as in the overhead locker.

1. Check the weather forecast of your destination so you can make some (unreliably) informed decisions.
2. Actually plan each outfit and don’t take any more than you need.
3. Make a list - if it’s names not down then it’s not getting in.
4. Take light clothes - they will take up less space and can be easily washed and quickly dried if needed.
5. Make sure all your clothes are in a similar colour palette and are versatile to be worn for day or night wear.
6. Pack your shoes at the bottom and stuff with your socks or other small items.
7. Buy all your toiletries when you get there.
8. Wear heavier clothes and coats, etc. on the plane (and five pairs of pants if you’re so inclined.)
9. Merino wool is super-lightweight, keeps you warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather and you can wear it for days on end and it still won’t smell.
10. Roll several garments together at a time to reduce creasing and use rubber bands to hold them together tighter.
