a minuscule dot

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day in Fishers, Indiana. We were in the path of totality for the solar eclipse and I totally underestimated how cool of an experience it would be. I’m not sure I would drive hours to see it as many people did, but I’m thankful I had the opportunity to see it from the comfort of my driveway.

Towards the end of the total eclipse, before I had to put the protective glasses back on, I couldn’t help but notice a feeling that reminded me of how small I am in the grand scheme of things–I’ve read and heard spiritual leaders talk about how we are a speck on a giant rock floating in a galaxy in a never-ending space.

I’ve never really taken the time to feel the “smallness” that I am, but for some reason, yesterday, I felt it when looking at the blacked-out sun.

I’m not sure what to do with this message and why it is today’s note other than to share the reminder that we are all a very small piece of an amazingly big puzzle--a minuscule dot on the planet.

That “smallness” doesn’t mean that we aren’t important because we are—without us, the puzzle is incomplete. But our “smallness” does mean that no matter how important we think we are, we aren’t really that important–which might sound like a negative comment at first, but I see it as freeing because it can remove any unnecessary pressure to be someone bigger than what we are.

We are an important part of the puzzle, but we are not the puzzle.
