Mint Times - August 2024

Welcome to the August edition of our LinkedIn newsletter, where we share the latest updates and insights from our platform. This month, we have some exciting events and campaigns to tell you about, as well as some general news that you don't want to miss.

Women’s Month

August is a special month for women in South Africa, as it marks the commemoration of the Women's March of 1956, when 20,000 women protested against the oppressive apartheid laws. On August 9th, we celebrate National Women's Day, a public holiday that honours the courage and resilience of these women and all women who fought for freedom and equality.

At Mint Group, we value diversity and inclusion, and we recognize the contributions of women in tech, a predominantly male-dominated industry. Throughout the month, we highlighted the women at Mint Group through a spotlight on each one through posts and videos. We are proud to have such talented and inspiring women on our team, and we hope to encourage more girls and young women to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Trailblazing WIB

One of the highlights of August was the Trailblazing WIB Inaugural Mimosa Breakfast, where our Group CFO, Yvonne Dias , participated as a panellist. The event, which was sponsored by Mint Group, celebrated Women's Month and brought together leaders from various fields to share their insights and experiences. Yvonne shared her wisdom and advice on how to succeed in tech, a male-dominated industry, and how to balance work and life. She also answered questions from the audience and networked with other inspiring women. It was a great opportunity for Mint to showcase our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to support women in business. We are proud of Yvonne and all the women at Mint who make a difference every day.

EmpowaWomen Annual Leadership Summit

Another exciting event in August was the EmpowaWomen Annual Leadership Summit, where our Group CFO, Yvonne Dias , was invited to speak. The summit was a platform for women leaders from different sectors to share their insights, challenges, and solutions for creating a more inclusive and equitable future. Yvonne's topic was Fintech Revolution: Women Pioneering Innovation in Financial Technology. She discussed how women are driving change and innovation in the fintech industry, and how they can overcome the obstacles and biases they face. She also shared her personal journey and passion for finance and technology, and how she leads by example at Mint Group.

GirlCode and Mint – Empowering Young Women

Mint is passionate about creating awareness about Girls in Tech and has been involved with GirlCode for over 5 years as a gold sponsor of their Hackathon events which provides school-age girls an opportunity to gain critical hands-on skills in the STEM modules. This past month we shot a Day in the life of Precious Murembiwa, an ex Girlcoder and now AI intern at Mint to inspire young women to pursue a career in tech.
