Minister's Week In Review
This week’s (September 11 – September 15, 2023) recap of the activities of Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Monday
I returned to Lagos on the back of a successful trip to India as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s delegation to the G-20 Summit, where I joined the President and other members of his delegation in a number of bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
Later on, Monday, I announced a countdown to unveil the Strategic Blueprint for the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy by Monday, October 2, 2023. This document will highlight the ministry’s plans for delivering on the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tuesday
Tuesday started with an early morning visit to one of the 5 Smart Farms powered by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The goal of the farm is to promote the use of technology, precision farming practices, data analytics and automation to enhance agricultural productivity. This is a critical initiative in the modernisation of Nigeria’s agriculture sector to drive economic growth and food security.
Right after that, I spent the rest of the day brainstorming with my team to discuss and review the Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint scheduled to be released next month.
Wednesday
I met with a team from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) to discuss the presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables for 2023-2027.? The OSGF team, which included consultants from a consortium of strategy firms, is responsible for collating and aligning plans from various ministries ahead of the 2023 Presidential Cabinet Retreat.??
Another team from the? Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), led by the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, also visited, for a briefing on the upcoming 11th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF-2023) scheduled to take place at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja from September 19 - 21, 2023.

Thursday
Ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled for New York, United States of America, from September 18 - 26, 2023, I met with the team to prepare a clear agenda and objectives for the trip. I also spent some time reviewing briefing notes for the various events I am scheduled to speak or attend.???
Our delegation to UNGA, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will join other world leaders in deliberating on issues affecting the global community, including climate change, food security, poverty, war and inflation.
On a special day of celebration, I sent birthday wishes to His Royal Highness, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. I joined other notable Nigerians to pay my respects to the monarch and acknowledged his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and the prosperity of Egbaland.

Friday
I spent the morning doing a final review of the report on the output of the stakeholder workshop organised at the end of last month, to co-create pathways towards training 1 million technical talents as part of the President‘s target of creating 2 million digital jobs in Nigeria by 2025. The draft report, which can be downloaded here. https://b.link/1MTTReport , was later released to the public, along with a call for feedback. I am quite keen to ensure that we remain open and accessible to citizens for feedback.
As I wrapped up a week filled with planning sessions, I continued preparation with my team, ahead of the UNGA in New York and gave some additional input on the FMoCIDE Strategic Blueprint.

I haven't read the Technical Talents document yet, but I do hope you are looking to create a growth ecosystem where Nigerian organizations can grow so that they'd be able to receive these new talents and would actually need their services. We already have a large pool of people who are into technical training but mostly seek to work/freelance for overseas organizations. Equipping Nigeria's ecosystem would help grow Nigeria.
