The boom of Mini-LED technology
At recent DIC EXPO 2021 in Shanghai,?HCG (HGC (Wuhan) Technology Co., Ltd.) has unveiled its latest Mini-LED backlight display products, including 27-inch Mini-LED displays equipped with COB BLU or POB BLU solution, 12.3-inch and 27-inch Mini-LED backlight, DCAM lamp beads and LED chips, which can be widely used in cell phones, tablets, TVs, commercial displays, vehicles, and other terminals.
It is not the first time that Mini LED draws much attention. Before this exhibition, many companies have trailed Mini LED Backlight in their new products. In the late 2020,?Apple had announced it was aiming to release a brand new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display during the first quarter of 2021.?According to a?paywalled report?from?DigiTimes.?Apple now is taking a significant step to improve the production of mini-LED displays for its upcoming redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, by investing $200 million in purchasing new equipment for four brand new mini-LED assembly lines.
LG also reported that its?QNED?Mini LED TVs are releasing worldwide starting in July. Based on the more common?LCD TV?technology instead?of?OLED, QNED combines the benefits of its NanoCell technology with?quantum dots?, according?to LG.

What is?Mini LED? Why do we choose Mini LED?
Mini LED is a relatively new kind of display technology which uses an array of thousands of tiny LEDs as a screen’s backlight.?
Technologically, diodes that are smaller than 0.2 mm are generally classed as mini-LEDs. Compared with the LCD panels that are lit with regular LEDs, it can provide enhanced brightness, deeper blacks, and more brilliant color. While mini-LED technology can’t quite match the picture quality of an OLED or micro-LED display, mini-LED models are much cheaper to produce. The larger the panel, the bigger the savings.?Manufacturing large OLED TVs are still tricky and expensive. The another big problem of OLED TVs is that they are subject to screen burn in, but mini-LED, not producing enough heat to cause damage to the screen surface, are far more durable than the organic compounds used in OLED.
Promising future of?Mini LED technology
With more technology giants paying attention to Mini LED, there is no doubt that driven by strong demand for better experience with TVs, monitors, wearable devices, car displays and other terminals, Mini-LED industry is expected to usher in rapid growth in the next few years.
According to GGII data, China's Mini LED market size was around 1.6 billion yuan in 2019, and is?projected?to reach 3.78 billion yuan in 2020, an increase of 140% year-on-year. Looking forward, it is estimated that the market of China Mini-LED industry will hit over 40 billion yuan in 2026.?
According to the report released by Zion Market Research, the global mini LED market was valued at USD 47.2 Million in 2019 and is expected to reach over USD 3,032.4 Million by 2026, growing at a CAGR of around 81% during the forecast period from 2020 to 2026.?
