2019

In August, Huawei released MindSpore, a foundational framework for deep learning and AI applications.

2020

In March, Huawei open-sourced MindSpore, China's first all-scenario AI framework.

MindSpore supported training and inference across devices, edge, and cloud, and established a strong community with the Technical Committee, quickly gaining traction with over 100,000 downloads.

2021

Community

Garnered 1 million+ downloads and 4,000+ core contributors, ranking No.1 among open source projects on Gitee — the Chinese equivalent of GitHub.

September

Released MindSpore 1.5, offering native support for foundation model training. MindSpore established itself as the major framework for ultra-large-scale AI training, accelerating innovation in both research and industry.

Ecosystem

The Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA), leveraged MindSpore to create Zidongtaichu, the world's first trimodal model.

December

The establishment of the Intelligent Remote Sensing Open Source Ecosystem Consortium and the Multimodal AI Industry Consortium has spurred industry-research collaboration. This is further boosted by MindSpore-powered remote sensing interpretation frameworks and multimodal foundation models.

Community

• Achieved 3.5 million+ downloads, gained 8,000+ core contributors, and fueled AI research with 600+ top conference papers.
• Ranked No.1 among tens of millions of projects on Gitee, becoming the most popular open source AI framework in China, according to the White Paper on AI Framework Development (2022) by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).

Released multiple MindSpore updates with elevated foundation model capabilities, AI for science capabilities, and performance.

• MindSpore improved and expedited aircraft design by powering aerodynamic simulation models for supercritical airfoils.
• The Intelligent Fluid Dynamics Industry Consortium, supported by MindSpore, was established and made significant strides in integrating AI and fluid dynamics.
• The MindSpore-powered trimodal model Zidongtaichu won the Super AI Leader (SAIL) Award at the 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC).

2023

• Garnered 6.5 million+ downloads and 25,000+ core contributors.
• Established the MindSpore Community Council, marking a new chapter of joint development, governance, and resource sharing.

June

Released MindSpore 2.0, China's first AI+HPC framework, along with AI for science toolkits, including MindSpore SPONGE for biological computing, MindSpore Flow for fluid simulation, and MindSpore Elec for electromagnetic simulation.

Dongfang.Yifeng, a MindSpore-based 3D fluid simulation model for supercritical airfoils, won the SAIL Award at WAIC 2023.

• Garnered 11 million+ downloads and 37,000+ core contributors.
• Recognized by OSCHINA as one of Gitee Most Valuable Projects (GVPs) in March, occupying top spot in the AI category.
• The Shanghai MindSpore Ecosystem Innovation Center was established in July based on the MindSpore AI framework and community.

Technology

Released MindSpore 2.3 in March. This new version introduces multi-dimensional hybrid parallelism for high-performance training on ultra-large-scale clusters and supports a unified training and inference architecture. It also provides end-to-end toolkits for streamlined, reliable, and efficient model development, training, fine-tuning, and deployment.

Ecosystem

Yudian, a MindSpore-driven intelligent simulation model, won the SAIL Award at WAIC 2024.
