Today we look at #WhyYouDoWhatYouDon’tLike…
…weighing #PeerPressure and #SelfPressure.
Peer pressure makes you go: “They will lose respect for me if I don’t do it.”
Imagine the results: Your self-esteem driven only by appearances on the surface, by words easily said and forgotten, you bend over to please others, living a life of lies, or a miserable cycle of mediocrity. You ultimately realise that you were not on everyone’s minds as much as you thought, but you have lost time and dignity, left alone to pick up the pieces.
Self-pressure makes you go: “I will lose self-esteem if I don’t do it.”
Imagine the results: Whether others influence you or not, your inner voice reigns supreme. Harsh and unforgiving, it traps you in a box, dictating that you continue doing what you actually dislike. Drilled into submission by the power of your own will, you fail to see other options that could liberate you from this needless toil. Eventually you burn out, gasping for what you really want, realising that how you fight the war in your mind can change everything. ?
Simple thoughts like these can create a world of difference, a different timeline.
I used to be stuck in activities that I detested, of which were either imposed upon me or necessary evils to sharpen my skills. Accepting these stresses, I found that I would tax myself further by allowing depreciating self-talk or peer-gossip to wither my will away.

By choosing to play smart, either by leveraging such negativity to strengthen my resolve to succeed, or to ignore the wild speculations of my imagination, I managed to survive and thrive by focusing on the end outcome: sharpening my skills as intended. Navigating social dynamics, I considered when to conform and when to let my quirks shine, discovering ways that better fit how I spent my energy and gain fulfilment, all while being somewhere that I did not like.
