Today we look at #UrgencyInLife…
…weighing #Laidback and #Urgent.
Laidback makes you go: “Why worry?”
Imagine the results: Caring not for change, you settle into your nest, your virtues rotting into vices. A literal couch potato, your mind and muscles wither away, for what you do not use, you end up losing. Others are burdened into looking out for you, straining bonds until you realise and change, or depart from the world without empathy for their sacrifices.
Urgent makes you go: “Every breathing second is spent in the best way possible!”
Imagine the results: By the laws of nature, you know fully that staying still only brings decay and irrelevance. Springing into action, you make the best of your limited lifespan to keep up and go beyond, working hard and playing harder. Your bucket list checked out and your funeral planned for, you leave nothing to chance, your regrets overshadowed by proud fulfilment few can realise. ?
Simple thoughts like these can create a world of difference, a different timeline.?
I used to think that the vitality of my youth would stay constant throughout my life, along with favoured services of the present. Dreams of enjoying in the future were shattered when I realised that disasters can shutter businesses, and we underestimate the tide of ageing. In a world of fast-paced change, oftentimes it is now or never.

By choosing to keep regrets low and make the best of a life ticking down, I studied the overconfidence of elders, repeating not their mistakes. I prioritised opportunities that were befitting of my youthful energy, stretching standards and mustering momentum, resisting the urge to slack off even when successful beyond average. And when others ask or discriminate when I enter the room with greying hair and hunched back, I can peacefully reply that I did all that I could and all that I wanted, at times most opportune.?
“A higher rate of urgency does not imply ever-present panic, anxiety or fear. It means a state in which complacency is virtually absent.” – John P. Kotter
