Today we look at #DealingWithFailure…
…weighing #Taboo and #Necessity.
Taboo makes you go: “At all costs, I cannot fail!”
Imagine the results: Ever stubborn to avoid the stain and lessons failure brings, you stick to the safe and tested routes, throwing anything, anyone, under the bus for mistakes humans are bound to make anyway. You wonder why your results are not as spectacular as you hoped for, and why you are making more enemies than friends. ?
Necessity makes you go: “Failure is needed in order to learn and improve!”
Imagine the results: You accept mistakes can happen, accidental or intentional, by your hand or without. Looking beyond any wounds, any ridicule, you focus on the new realisations such errors have created. Seeing every failure a stepping stone, you improve every next attempt, in time achieving your ultimate success.
Simple thoughts like these can create a world of difference, a different timeline.?
I used to run away from the ‘F’ word, disassociating myself from advice that could lead to it, and even people who tasted it before. Looking down on them and thinking myself superior proved worse; a self-afflicted lifestyle of paranoia, anxiously analysing every action. Would I tarnish the perfect image I had of myself, and join the ranks of these 'failures'? Such thinking exhausted me, and I performed no better… until energetic mentors showed me how failure, in fact, helped them beyond their wildest dreams.

By choosing to embrace failure as an unconventional teacher alongside the conventional ones, I doubled my insights, and doubled my results. I could empathise more with others, and hence even take no offence from their remarks. I could look past the constraints of perfectionism and boost my productivity. Failure continues to keep me humble and curious, keeping me open to helping the world around me.
“Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.” – Dale Carnegie
