MindSet
Red Pill or Blue Pill...
?Mind Set is Everything. It defines how you look at the world, your workplace, colleagues, even family and friends.
In the Agile Manifesto the first value is "Individuals and Interactions over processes and Tools". It's the easiest value to understand and yet it is the Foundation for so many reacurring questions in the Agile approach.
" I believe..." (In the words of Neo) that to empower your Agile team you need to truly cement this first value in your team members and in yourself.
How can you develop a sense of security and trust in your team allowing it to blossom and try new things? How do you get rid of the fear of failure?
As a Leader of any Agile team the foundation for development is Trust. Trust in the same beliefs as a team, trust in your leader and colleagues. Defining each other while all the time aiming for that special feeling of belonging and experiencing joy in your work as a group. With aim set for success without the fear of uncertainty...
The outcome of that definition as a team lies greatly in the hands of the Project Leader, Team Lead/Scrum Master, call it whatever you like . By empowering words and thoughts with actions and spreading a Mind Set in your team and then expanding that Mind Set throughout the borders of your team and into other areas of your workplace.
Because let's face it. It's hard enough to make a team accept new ways of thinking and trying to get them to Believe it's ok to try new things out. To voice an opinion, while defending against managment worrying about outcomes, time boxing, asset managment and delivery times. (of course these things are important, but again….Trust!)
No, all agile teams don't need to experiment in every small undertaking, sprint or development at hand but you need the Mindset that when an oppurtunity arises, an idea is sparked, you have an obligation to share it! To voice your thoughts and bring a new light on things collecting dust in the corners of your mind.
A co-worker of mine has a White board that is clustered with ideas and notes. Sometimes it's messy and sometimes it's Clean. One thing that is constant though are some Words he has written in the corner of the board. It says….
"Get some or go home!"
Well!!?? You wanna stay in La La land....or you gonna go with the Red Pill and get your Mind Set On!??
