Mindset

Whether you intend on being where you are until you retire or look at your current employment as a temporary stepping stone, the idea is still the same. We need to set goals for ourselves professionally so we have a defined place to point and say “That is where I want to go” or “This is what I want to accomplish”, either way having aspirations is an important element to job satisfaction. We often allow negativity in the work environment to cloud our judgement and guide our enthusiasm down the drain. The best way to counter this negative outlook is to have a proper mindset that is continuously reinforced with sound direction in order to foster positive development.

Our mindset is arguably the most paramount component to our overall demeanor and dictates the direction of our thoughts. Don’t allow yourself to be jaded by the mentality of "what’s in it for me". Buy-in regarding employment with most companies is a very elusive attribute and one that is highly desired in all industries. Most employees slide by with minimal effort and find themselves constantly looking at the clock and counting down the minutes until they can run to their car and drive home.

We have to have a clear and absolute target with what we want out of our jobs. Evaluating frequently the inspiration behind what we do is healthy and its a way to keep all things in balance.Keep a healthy perspective by looking at coworkers as being partners on our team and not just a group of individuals forced to work together by happenstance. Each one of us are on a voyage and the beauty of that is we each have unique perspectives of this journey and creative ideas on which path or road to take while on it.  Below are some questions that will show you where your mindset is and are worth pondering over.

  • What about my job do I enjoy best?
  • How can I contribute to the company's continued success?
  • How can I better utilize my strengths for gradual personal growth?
  • What is my Goal for this year professionally?
  • How can I better develop relationships with my teammates or co-workers?
  • Do I have a work/life balance and if not how can I?
  • Could I do things more effectively if I break a certain habit?
  • Where do I want to be in 1 yr., 3 yrs., 5 yrs etc.?
  • Did I do the best that I could today?
  • Did I spend more time complaining than complementing?

These may seem trivial and elementary in nature but sometimes simplicity is a better alternative than over thinking. Reflection often will help keep our minds where we want them and frequent self evaluation will keep us in line with where we are and where we want to be. You have nothing to loose purging a negative mindset and replacing it with optimism. chances are the results from this will transcend into your personal life as well.-
