TLDR

Teachable Moment: Nurture a growth mindset in your team by fostering an environment that values adaptability and leading by example.

The Problem

You’re leading a team, and things are going relatively smoothly.

But there’s a hiccup.

You notice a pattern where certain team members seem to be stuck in their ways.

They believe that their abilities are set in stone, and they resist every new idea that comes their way.

These are the classic symptoms of a fixed mindset.

And here’s the kicker: their negativity and resistance can spread like wildfire, bogging down even your most enthusiastic employees.

Instead of contributing constructively, they play the role of the eternal naysayer.

Their go-to phrases are “This won’t work” or “Why change something that’s fine the way it is?”

The result?

Productive conversations hit a brick wall, and innovation takes a backseat.

The Solution

To steer the team in the right direction, start educating them about how essential a growth mindset is.

Use team meetings to discuss the importance of adaptability and learning.

You could share articles, videos, or other resources that explain the concept of a growth mindset.

But don’t stop at education; you must embody these principles yourself.

Show them you are open to new ideas, and demonstrate how taking risks and embracing challenges can lead to personal and professional growth.

Your behavior sets the tone for the team, so let your actions speak loudly.

Keep learning,

Josh
