??????Mindmap Mondays: Theme ~ Reflection

??What I’m listening to: Forget New year’s Resolutions and Conduct a Past Year Review instead ~ The Tim Ferris Show

This short but sweet podcast episodes shares a different spin on how to best reflect and improve for the new year. I’ve very fond of this “positive pre-planning” approach and going to put this concept to good use right now as I plan my 2022 calendar year.

“Schedule, prepay, or book as many of the positive things as possible. This is so that they're in the diary or at the very least, you have set time aside for them. "It's not real in my experience until it's scheduled,"”

??What I’m re-reading: Atomic Habits by James Clear

As I’m currently undergoing my 2021 year reflection some of these quotes are very prudent and current in preparation for 2022.

"Decide the type of person you want to be. Prove it to yourself with small wins....Goals are about the results you want to achieve. Systems are about the processes that lead to those results."

??What I’m watching: Made by Design on Netflix.

This documentary series shares different African culture design concepts from Nigerian entrepreneurs. I’m fascinating by all things design, whether it's architecture, or art or technology. I'm particularly interested in understanding the creative process, the experience and the journey to implement thought provoking and innovative concepts. It helps inspire me for both my personal hobbies and professional career. Plus this is perfectly timed to watch back-to-back episodes over the holidays as well.

??What has influenced me: Generative Hobbies ~ Seth Godin

I very much like this post from Seth Godin. It outlines my passion for my different hobbies that fuels my need to continuously improve and innovate outside of work. Whether its working on Lego models, taking photos or volunteering/supporting Umoja (an all black student robotics team), hobbies is a fundamental and required asset that I’ve relied on in 2021. And plan to increase my time supporting these hobbies further for 2022 as well.?

"…A generation or two ago, hobbies were things like paint by number or candlemaking, or perhaps a woodshop. That’s changing...This might be the golden age for a new kind of hobby, one that’s about community, leadership and producing public goods, not private ones. Because it’s so much easier to connect and because ideas multiply, the generative hobby gives us a chance to make a contribution, even (especially) when we’re not at work. Sharing ideas, leading, connecting…"

??What has innovated me: “Productivity Tips - Work Less, Do More, Make Time” ~ Matthew Encina?

Matthew shares a few productivity tips that are low barrier to implement, reasonable to replicate and most importantly easy to maintain. I like his suggestions on working blocks, focus sprints and recharge time. I often use this method to schedule dedicated work time but I avoid blaring timers or alarms as they are distracting when you are in the middle of work. Instead, when able, I work to 1.5hr intervals with selected music mixes. And when the music mix is done that is my queue to take a break.
