Minding the gap

What is on your list of things you want to do, or know you should do – but don’t?
I saw this quote from Bruce Lee who was a philosopher in addition to his better-known Hollywood exploits…
“Knowing is not enough. We must apply. Willing is not enough. We must do.”
This has been called the ‘knowing-doing gap’.
What things are in your knowing-doing gap, and is that a useful place for them?
What happens to them in there, and what happens to you when you have things in your knowing-doing gap?
As they say on the London underground stations, “Mind the gap!”
Here is more insight on why we want to do something, and four fascinating questions.
My best wishes, Paul

5 年Paul Matthews - great article. I love the reflective exercises you have included. So rarely do we take?those few moments to think back to the beliefs we were holding, at a point in time,?that enabled us to make a certain decision to take action. I once, rather spontaneously, corralled a small group of people together that I worked with, to form a temporary choir. I asked them to sing a jingle with me for a segment I was delivering at a town hall meeting. I was?the excited skier at the top of the slope looking down in glee! I anticipated it to be fun, pleasurable and with a positive outcome. My fellow choir mates were not so sure but took the leap and did it anyway! When we spoke afterwards they all agreed it had been nerve wracking but a very positive experience (with great feedback). Shortly after this a workplace choir was formed which many of them joined! #feelthefearanddoitanyway
