Mindfulness for Teenager

Mindfulness for Teenager

It was 2 weeks ago when I got to know that my 18-year-old cousin in India shows anger at her parents and shouts at his brother. I know he is a cute innocent boy. I also knew that the family doesn't know how to communicate effectively with children. I have been there! Most parents may not have a good emotional connection with their children. They just don't know.

I wanted to do something here. I talked to him and started an open conversation and asked- "how he feels these days". His response was- there is nothing to enjoy in this pandemic. He is clueless about what to do next and what to study. He asked me- "what he can do to enjoy". I actually asked him- "what do you like to do for fun"? He responded- "flying kites and creating electronic things". As the conversation went on-

I asked him- would you like to feel good and not angry? The answer was "yes".

I asked him to start with three small practices for 3 days that would take 7-10 mins.

Practice #1: Morning time: Closing eyes just for 1 min(Meditation). I tried to explain to him very simply.

Practice #2: Post lunch: Writing down whatever is going on in the mind. Mental dump. A.k.a Journaling.

Practice #3: Post-dinner: Writing what worked and what didn't work the whole day.

After 3 days, he reported that his mind is feeling fresh. I, then, said- "I am proud of you for your efforts", and asked him- would you like to do it for the next 3 more days. Well, I am waiting for his response.
