Mindfulness - Do a Body Sweep

Research has shown that our emotions manifest in our bodies. For example, negative emotions can often cause people to tense their shoulders, jaw, and the muscles around their eyes and mouth. With continuous stress, these muscles can become sore and tight.?

A key way to balance your mind-body connection is to pause and give yourself a 'body sweep'.

Sit quietly and gradually scan your body, starting at the top of your head, moving down over your face, the back of your head, your shoulders, arms, hands, torso, hips, legs, and feet. As you are doing this, notice any sensations you feel.

Are there any areas of tension, pressure, or discomfort?

If so, breathe into these areas and allow them to soften and relax.

Practising this body sweep on a regular basis can help you become more aware of the messages and signals in your body.

The tension you feel may be a 'gut feeling' relating to a choice you have to make. A headache may indicate that you need to pay attention to a health issue.

By exploring the link between your mind and body, you will start to notice which parts of the body are affected when you experience a particular emotion. By 'softening' these areas it can help release the tension or emotion stored there.
