Mindfulness

Mindfulness

A moment of peace? …. A moment of just being?... or perhaps you think it’s all nonsense?

?

In business I believe there are three key elements to success ?Mindset, Motivation, and Strategy. When these align, success is within reach.

?

Part of Mindset is Mindfulness it’s what keeps us balanced and calm not to mention the added bonsus of downloads, but I will talk about that another day.

??

When I first was introduced to mindfulness, I ran a mile, yes, I fought it all the way with statements like “I am too hyper for that nonsense”, “I am too busy to sit still for 20 minutes and it’s not my thing”,” it’s boring”, “are you for real I have a young family I just do not have that luxury”, the list went on… ??

Does any of this sound familiar?

?

Back in the days, I used to have 8 strong black coffees and a daily glass of wine. I was in denial, thinking I was super-human and that taking breaks was for less focused people. I truly believed I was in control. I was running at such a fast pace that I couldn't see the reality of the situation.?

If truth be known, I didn’t start to appreciate the value of mindfulness until I started my training to be a hypnotherapist and even, then I was a reluctant student when it came to mindfulness

?

So, what changed?? I burnt out, I hadn’t listened to what my body was telling me, so my body took control and chose a way to stop me in my tracks, I hit the preverbal brick wall.?

With the patience of a saint, my hypnotherapy coach gradually gave me the tools I needed to slow down.? I discovered that in just two minutes I could have a wonderful outcome.? I felt less stressed, and more in control and now practice several times a day.

Being mindful can take as little or as long as you want it, and you don’t even need to sit on the floor with your legs crossed or hands facing up.? You can be mindful it sitting at your desk or if you are tight on time, you could even practice whilst travelling on a bus or train.? .? In truth, I prefer to lie down

?

Your choice to practice mindfulness will be unique. From spending 2 minutes in peripheral vision to sitting crossed-legged on the floor for 3 hours, there is no right or wrong; just a moment to do it your way.?

Interested in learning how 2 minutes can make a difference?

?Well, let’s get started …... ??

Firstly, find a comfortable place to sit or you could remain standing – as I mentioned above, find a place that fits you – Although on this occasion I wouldn’t lie down.

Now find an object or spot on a wall that is just above eye level

Whilst focused on the object or spot in front of you, take a deep breath, making sure that when you breathe in, your stomach rises and not your shoulders.?? Breathing into your stomach enables you to take deeper breaths allowing your lungs to expand even further.

On the out-breath, make the breath longer, e.g., Breathe in for 5 seconds and then breathe out for 7.? ?Pursing your lips allows more control over your out-breath (optional)

Now bring your breathing back to your normal pace and just notice your breath whilst still focusing on the object or spot on a wall in front of you.

After about 30 seconds, and whilst still looking straight ahead at the marker in front of you (do not move your head) and whilst focusing on your breath, notice what you can see out of the corner of your eyes, ‘your peripheral vision.? Keep this focus for about 90 seconds.? You may notice that you zone out, you may become unaware of what is happening around you – your mind quietens – you focus only on you

Stay like this for about 90 seconds, longer if you wish and gradually return your focus to its normal state when you are ready.

?

You have just completed a 2-minute mindfulness exercise, allowing you to just be in the moment, giving your brain time to calm and destress.

?

Like anything we learn, the more practice, the better and more adept we become in creating better results.

Mindfulness is such an essential now in our noisy world to enable us to reflect, process information overload and ensure we are still on track because sometimes what we want isn’t aligned with who we actually are ??
