Mindful Healthcare: A Cardiologist's Dream

Mindful Healthcare: A Cardiologist's Dream

?? Imagine a healthcare system where every patient, provider and leader speaks the same language. Imagine connection and communication at all levels based on self-awareness, calm clear-headed thinking, and real empathy. That’s the dream I’ve had for a while. Call me naive...

???? What a feeling of gratitude and optimism I have today. What began as my own journey through burnout and self-discovery and continued through my training and certification as a mindfulness meditation teacher started a new chapter today.

?? I led Novant Health‘s first “Mindfulness for Well-being and Peak Performance” workshop retreat for clinician leaders, specifically for graduates of Dr. Tom Jenike’s transformational and pioneering 3-day Novant Health Leadership Development Program.

?? Participants from Winston Salem and Charlotte were engaged, supportive of each other, and spoke of their commitment to bringing more mindfulness and compassion to themselves, their patients, their teams, and their communities. This was exactly the impact I was hoping for.

?? I am grateful to the leadership of Novant Health including Regina Hartung (VP Heart and Vascular Institute), Gary Niess (Senior VP Heart and Vascular Institute), and Nisha Massey (Senior Director, Heart and Vascular Service Line).

???? I am fortunate to know and be supported by Dr Jenike (MD SVP Chief Human Experience Office), Kristi Roe (VP Organizational Residency), and Victoria King (Clinician Physician Executive) of the Novant Health Human Experience team.

?? Today’s participants said that they appreciated learning new skills and practical tools for stress reduction, enhanced self-awareness, and improved emotional connections at work and home.

???? The next workshop retreat will be in Winston-Salem on December 13th.

Be the change...
