Mindful coffee drinking for a longer life and better book

The experience of drinking coffee (or tea) offers a brilliant opportunity to engage and experience mindfulness. Did you know?

(And there's an extra layer to this as well...)

Now, it?doesn’t?mean that you must drink coffee (or tea)… to be mindful.

It?does?illustrate that you can practice mindfulness throughout your day (and get the benefits) no matter what you’re?doing… personally, professionally, and everything in between.

By drinking coffee, paying attention, and smiling.

Simply by paying attention more often, you strengthen your 'muscle' awareness. The more you pay attention, the more you hang out in the present.

And the more you're actually alive.

Studies show that people who meditate / practice mindfulness perceive more of reality, literally.

Hence, the real secret of living longer, part one.

Part two... drinking coffee, mindfully, is a legit way to do this. Smiling helps you relax and lightens your mind and your mood. (Good for your book.)

And why?wouldn't?you be smiling if you were were drinking coffee, right?

So?here are 11 ways you can make coffee mindful, and live more life.

1. Remembering. (You like coffee/tea).

2. Physical awareness: sensations in your belly and the feeling of your feet on the floor.

3. Acknowledging information (coffee/tea?is coming).

4. Recognizing that you’re excited (coffee/tea?is coming),

5. Enjoying the smell of the brewing / pouring?coffee.

6. Smiling, and breathing… and knowing that you’re enjoying it, as you’re enjoying it.

7. Your awareness of yourself, your physical surroundings, ambient sounds, and how you’re feeling at the moment.

---- Then this moment.

8. Noticing what happens to just pop into your mind, uninvited.

----?(Like that thought just now... that image that just came through now...that emotion that came from nowhere just now.)

9. Smiling and offering appreciation and gratitude to honor and acknowledge your blessings and being alive. ??

10. Being present… as you take sips. How it smells. The movement of your hand. The rim of the cup touching your lips.

11.?Knowing that you're enjoying the heck out of what you're drinking!

????????(At least I hope you are!)

Remember that your mind is a “thought factory” that pumps out a lot of noise. That can block?your?book.

And all sorts of things like sensations, emotions, anger, sadness, joy... they can just arise, often for no reason.

Also, all that "book stuff that can derail people from getting their book done, such as:

? getting started, fear, doubt, 'imposter syndrome,’ 'writer's block', where to start, shame, ‘lack of discipline’, fear or rejection, loss of the tribe, over-thinking, self-sabotage, self-judgment, what to actually write, lack of self-worth, ‘monkey mind, ’overwhelm, confusion, your inner critic, and/or that feeling of, ‘it’s so much bigger than me!’

Just practice noticing what comes up? and practice not taking it personally. You likely didn't ask for whatever emotion, memory, or physical feeling has come up.

Yet there it is.?So don't get involved.

Keep breathing and smiling and paying attention to right now.

Remember that you're the boss, so practice using your mind as a tool to have the freedom and impact you want. And to help you get your book done.

Anytime you get distracted or feel discomfort... simply relax your head, relax your face, smile, breathe...

And live more life by paying attention to what you're seeing / hearing / tasting / touching / feeling / thinking... right now.

(Let the magic happen.)

Thanks for doing that!

Most days I drink coffee mindfully, while others (like today), I'm mindful of how much I need coffee. ?? And you're correct. It's those short moments of mindfulness (and smiling) that make the day wonderful.

Sage counsel indeed. Trying to bring regular 10 second bursts of mindfulness can soothe and can also disrupt your super efficient (and sometimes harmful shortcut) processes that your brain puts in place. It can be enough to pause and then decide how you want to act rather than what your little saboteur wants you to do. Can I offer a few suggestions. The coffee is brilliant because engaging sense takes you out of your head and coffee brings smell, taste, heat, even steam on your face. I also encourage people to very very slowly run the fingertips of one hand down the fingertips and palms of the other, paying attention to every tiny sensation. Or in the middle of a heated discussion focus on the eyebrow of the other person. Notice every hair, it’s colour, it’s breadth, it’s straightness. Anything you like for 10 seconds. Then respond. It really is the key to responding not reacting. ??
