“The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die. As well the minds which are prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be mind.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
I call this one The Mindful 8. Let’s talk about Mindset. This is more of a reminder and I know you all need this because I need it sometimes too. Let's not waste any time today and get right into it.
1. Change your self-talk. The conversation you have with yourself is a direct reflection of your mindset. If you're telling yourself “that was stupid”, “why is this happening to me”, “I can’t take this anymore", and “why is everyone against me” then listen up! This type of talk is what creates most of your problems in your life. Your family, friends, work, etc... know you and they don't want to be around someone who is constantly negative. You must create your life from the inside out!
2. Change your spoken language. Start with the way you talk to other people and avoid phrases like “I am always like this” or “That's just the way I am”. Here’s the key, make a habit of talking about the good things that are going well in your life instead of complaining and talking about your problems. This will encourage a mindset of abundance instead of fear and lack.
3. Be more aware of who you currently are and where you need to be.
Think of Fixed vs Growth Mindset, just like the book by Carol Dweck, but just like everything else, if you only read about it and don't practice it then it means nothing. If you don’t repeatedly practice this you will eventually forget it. The biggest difference between both is that a Growth Mindset finds lessons and inspiration from the success of others.

4. Continually keep learning and Unlearning. Surround Yourself with people that have the mindset you need. You know this, but don’t have a consistent process that forces you to do it. The key is doing this in the AM or at a specific time every time. There is no excuse to surround yourself with inspiration from books, audiobooks, podcasts, articles, webinars, youtube videos, etc...
5. Practice doing things that are uncomfortable for you. It’s natural for most people to complain when we are faced with a new way of doing things, but the more new things you actually do the more you get accustomed to changing. The more you practice being uncomfortable the more comfortable you become with uncertainty and that's the key to a growth mindset!
6. Create a Routine so you don’t fall back on your old habits. Evening and Morning routines or whatever it takes. The key is to help yourself daily by following a small checklist of items that you know will only benefit you!
7. Reflect. Every day take five minutes to reflect back and see how you led your life and how you treated those around you. A friend once told me that a life worth living is a life worth writing. If you can reflect on your daily actions in a journal even better! You will begin to understand who you are as you take time to reflect deeper.
8. Take care of your body. The mind is directly connected to the body and I don’t think we remember that as often as we need to. The body and the mind are one and if you want to work at an optimal level you will take care of both!
I hope this breakdown helps and please let me know if you have anything else to add or any other suggestions.
