MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS: A ROADMAP TO PURPOSE, IMPACT, AND LEGACY

The phrase “mind your own business” is often tossed around as a dismissive retort, a way to deflect prying eyes or unsolicited advice. But what if we reframed it? What if “minding your own business” became a clarion call to focus on your divine purpose, mission, and legacy? What if it became a mantra for living intentionally, deliberately, and impactfully?

This article is a call to action—a reminder that your life is your business, and how you manage it determines the impact you leave on the earth. Let’s explore the roadmap to minding your own business for maximum impact and legacy.

The Catalyst: A Wife’s Response

It all began with a simple question: “Are you okay?” My wife, sensing my concern, responded with a playful yet pointed, “Mind your own business.” Her words struck a chord. I smiled and replied, “You?are?my business.” And it’s true. My wife, my family, my purpose, my mission—they are all part of the “business” I am called to mind.

My wife is a game-changer. Her responses, reactions and even her silence shapes my life’s journey. She is my partner, my first fan, and the one who ensures I stay on track. If you want to explore and understand the power of a woman as a game-changer, listen to voices like Pastor Paul Adefarasin , Fela Durotoye , Kingsley Okonkwo , Ibukun Awosika , and Funke Felix-Adejumo . They and many others all affirmatively speak to the transformative role women play in shaping destinies.

The Awakening: Books Changed Everything

Fifteen years ago, I stumbled upon a book that revolutionised my perspective:?#21 Ways to Mind Your Own Business?by Dr.Sola Fola-Alade . This book wasn’t just a read; it was a revelation. It taught me to focus on my purpose, channel my energy into what truly matters, and ignore distractions that don’t align with my mission.

But the journey didn’t stop there. I sought mentorship from Mr. oluseyi wright , after reading his book ‘Choose to Make a Difference’ four times. His guidance, coupled with the wisdom of Dr. Myles Munroe’s?The Principles and Power of Vision propelled me into a life of intentionality. The text remains instrumental in shaping my perspective on vision and purpose and the narrative for a life of impact.

The crucible of the mentorship programme led to the birth of Value Vision Consulting, the ‘Seek to Know’ initiative—a mind-shift and knowledge-gain project aimed at self-actualisation, and Patriot, a national vocal ambassador initiative through anthems and spoken presentations that promote national values and identity in Africa. Patriot took me across states and to national seats of power in Nigeria, where I had the privilege of performing the National Anthem for governors, former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Nigeria and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The Purpose Statement: My North Star

After a life-changing leadership empowerment seminar with Dr.Sola Fola-Alade at the House on the Rock, Lagos Nigeria, I decided to commit fully to minding my own business. Over the years, this commitment has remained unwavering, encapsulated in my purpose statement: To impact values in all I come across in life; be a solution to their challenges and reveal to them their self-worth and value. This statement is the foundation of the five key areas that keep me focused on minding my own business:

1.?Divine Purpose and Calling

Your divine purpose is the reason you were created. It’s the unique assignment given to you by your Creator before time began. For me, this includes my pastoral calling, chaplaincy ministries (campus and paramilitary), spiritual mentoring, music ministries of solo and groups (Amonix and The CHORD), life coaching, and counselling engagements. It’s about imparting values, solving challenges, and making a divine positive impact on individuals.

Key Question:?What has God uniquely called you to do? How are you fulfilling that calling?

2.?Family: The Hub of Impact & Game Changers

Your family is your first ministry. My wife, the game-changer, and my children, my ambassadors, are central to my life’s business. My wife is my partner and my first fan who plays a crucial role in ensuring my effectiveness as a husband, father, minister, role model, mentor, and changemaker. While it is my responsibility to cultivate, nurture, and fan her capacity to flame, her pivotal role of supporting, sustaining, and facilitating the ‘goodness’ she carries enables me to access favour. Our children—our ambassadors and special envoys—generate the inspiration, encouragement, and energy needed to lead a life of responsibility and accountability. The family is the hub through which the man reflects, shaping societal narratives of love, values, and humanity.

Key Question:?How are you nurturing and investing in your family? Are you creating a legacy of love and values within your home?

3. The Earth-bound Mission: Positively Influencing the World

Your mission is the tangible expression of your purpose. It’s about using your talents, gifts, and abilities to positively influence the world.?My professional endeavours: Value Vision Consulting, Grey Consortium Holdings , Global Business Roundtable (GBR) , community and national engagements, business partnerships, and consultancy services all fall under this umbrella. Here, my goal is to be salt and light—infiltrating systems and shining brightly in dark places, respectively.

Key Question:?What is your mission? How are you using your gifts to make a difference?

4.?The Network and Relationship of People

Your network is your net worth. Building and maintaining positive, value-driven relationships is your crucial life business. Every connection should align with your purpose and mission. Staying committed to fostering meaningful relationships ensures the fulfilment of the mission. I strive to add value to my network, ensuring that every relationship is mutually rewarding and impactful.

Key Question:?Are your relationships aligned with your purpose? Are you adding value to the lives of those in your network?

5.?Legacy: What Will You Leave Behind?

Your legacy is the sum total of your life’s work. It’s what you leave behind for generations to come. Rick Beneteau ’s legacy assessment code challenges us to ask thought-provoking questions about our impact. When your time on earth is over, what will people remember about you? Will your life be a well-written book, inspiring generations, or a cautionary tale? Ensuring that our lives are well-written manuscripts worthy of being read and emulated is a responsibility we must never take for granted and 'business to mind'.

Key Question:?What legacy are you building? How do you want to be remembered?

Roadmap to Minding Your Own Business:

If you are serious about minding your own business for impact and legacy, consider the following keys:

  1. Discover Your Purpose: Your purpose is the foundation of your life’s business. Seek to understand why you are here.
  2. Define Your Core Focus: Identify the major areas that align with your calling and commit to them wholeheartedly.
  3. Eliminate Distractions: Not every opportunity is meant for you. Learn to say no to things that don’t align with your purpose.
  4. Cultivate Discipline and Commitment: Success requires consistent effort and a commitment to lifelong growth.
  5. Build Strategic Relationships: The right people will accelerate your journey; surround yourself with visionaries. Do not waste your time in relationships or business you are not celebrated in or honoured in.
  6. Invest in Lifelong Learning: Read books, seek mentorship, and continuously develop your knowledge and skills.
  7. Embrace Challenges as Stepping Stones: Obstacles are inevitable, but they refine you and push you towards excellence and influence.
  8. Focus on Impact, Not Just Success: Legacy isn’t about wealth or fame but the lives you touch and the values you instil.
  9. Hold Yourself Accountable: Regularly assess whether you are staying true to your mission and making the impact you envisioned.
  10. Live with Eternity in Mind: Remember that life is temporary, but your impact can be eternal. Make it count.

Final Thoughts

  • Define Your Purpose:?Write a clear purpose statement. Let it guide your decisions, actions, and relationships.
  • Prioritise Your Family:?Invest time, love, and energy into your family. They are your first and most important ministry.
  • Pursue Your Mission:?Use your gifts and talents to make a tangible impact. Be intentional about your work and partnerships.
  • Build Meaningful Relationships:?Surround yourself with people who align with your purpose and add value to your life.
  • Plan Your Legacy:?Live with the end in mind. Make choices today that will leave a lasting, positive impact.

Minding your own business isn’t about ignoring others; it’s a call to focus on your divine assignment with unwavering commitment. It’s about living a life of purpose, impact, and legacy; knowing what matters, staying committed, and being relentless in fulfilling your divine mandate. As you journey through life, remember you are an open book, written by your deeds and misdeeds. Make it a bestseller.

So, I ask you: What’s your business? Are you minding it? The earth is waiting for your impact. Don’t keep it waiting.

Mind your own business. Change the world.
