Mind your own business and enjoy the process!

Hi everyone,

The past two weeks flew by in no time. We are rapidly already approaching June and thereby half of the year is already gone.

I'm starting my blog/newsletter today with a provocative question today.

Do you really do what you love or love what you do? I'm not talking about ideal situation but really feeling thrilled about what you do. Enjoying every part of it? Is that even possible in stress?

Love what you do

The sentence love what you do is so often quoted, and we see countless motivational speeches, coaches, business leaders always referring to the importance to get up in the morning and love what you do.

The past two weeks - and this is partially a part of why there was radio silence - I was challenged with my own understanding of what it literally entails if you really love what you do - or do what you love, and also what happens if you pursue something that is no longer your passion and you do it because you are scared to let it go. Might be that it is a project/client/avenue of income, that you feel you have to maintain, in order to pay your rent, finance your mortgage or afford what you want to have.

You feel stuck, because clearly, you don't do it because you are passionate about it but because you have to do or have to stay in the position you are currently at.

And the result? You feel drained, exhausted and to be honest, performance lacks.

So how to get out of this hamster wheel without suffering or cutting back. Is that even possible?

Money is energy

Truth is: it is. No matter how many sources of income you generate, when you critically look at it, those who are the most fun, are the most stable.

Where your heart goes, and your focus, there you see how to tell the right story to your customers, which approach to take and where the gaps are you can fill with your service, product, or with your person. And this is all your own, individual understanding of the situation. Others might love it and you still feel meeh in a so called dream job with a dream team, but you don't love it (anymore). No matter how much you try, you're done with it and what happens, your focus goes on what you don't like and with that the energy and the income or success with what you do decreases.

You wonder why there are so many millionaires in the showbiz? Because they love and live what they do. They are what they do.

Being indifferent what you do is one thing. You just remain where you are, your standards of life remain the same and you take life as it is, you except the 'lack' as something that is part of your life. You keep on telling yourself: 'I can't afford this.' 'This is too big, too out of reach.' 'Outside of my capabilities.' 'First, I nee the money, I need the opportunity, etc.' 'Next year I might focus on that, after we finished renovating the house, after the kids enter school, and so forth.

Enjoy the process

We tend to look too much at what we do not have. We wish to have it right away. Master an instrument, master a certain skill, close a deal, cash out our success, finish a task/presentation/paper, finalize reviewing code or our book script, move into the house we built etc.

We are sometimes so worn out on the last mile to get to our goal. Often the energy lacks and we lose focus and then we finalize with a sigh: Thank god! Eventually, we made it. It's over.

Is this what love looks like? Can we really enjoy after such a closing what we built/did/achieved?

My own desperate house hunt led me to this idea of really enjoy the way, enjoy the process, take all there is and embrace it, the single step. And without force, but really consider it as part of the process. Consciously. Might sound strange - but only, because you are so used to 'getting things over with' and this is not love. Sealing the deal is not really indulging in the process of selling, this dance of back and forth, the negotiation of terms, the testing of partnership along the way. Evaluating, is it the right offering, the right client and really consciously taking one step after the next.

The next presentation you have to finalize, look at it through the eyes of a designer, not getting it over with but really enjoying it. The way you consciously decided how to set the graphs on the powerpoint slide and how to really plan the storyline, narrate in front of clients or investors etc. Potentially you find as well in the myriad of possibilities a new tool, helping you and your team to move faster, create new templates and find new ways to collaborate. You'll see, the more you consciously look at things, the faster you get and the more creative also.

Do the same in all areas of life and you'll see how not just your motivation but as well the outcome, your energy level and your health benefits from it.

I'm still hunting for a house, while preparing for our move already, even though yet unclear what the new house will be like. I'm already amazed, how many cool contacts I made in that process, and how many new things I learnt, experienced, which would not have come, if all had run smoothly.

Maybe a new thing you can try out for your next annoying task or thing to get over with, or even when you have to wait on a response or action/event out of your control to continue your task. Make the best out of this 'waiting' time and do what you love! Treat yourself. Invest your energy in something that you always wanted to do, or just enjoy the extra time and don't desperately get to fill the time with some task just to do something. Enjoy the process and trust the outcome, because you do what you love.

What does money have to do with it?

I so often heard myself and other people saying this infamous sentence. If I had the freedom to do this, if I had the money, I would quit my job and do what I love. Doing what you love, does not require money, but it is more about a new mindset in how we consider sources of income. Additionally it results in revisiting a shift in how we structure our workplaces and how we enable people to really do what they love for a living. We spoke about it in so many ways, that technology enables us to really do what we love, in a way, we never had the chance to experience before. Still we are stuck in the old paradigm of hard work means success, busy means important.

So here's why I love what I do and am passionate about: With all my business/project involvements I focus on creating more possibilities and open opportunities to lay the foundation for exactly that. Enabling a shift in how we generate income while we love what we do or do what we love. With Bleexy , Learning Economy Foundation , rinna株式会社 my coaching and a stealth project which I'm super excited to tell more about very soon. Technology and the opportunities are there.

As always.. whenever you feel to do that.. shoot me a message.. let's jump on a call if you're interested in more info of any of my projects and potentially as well to help you finding a new way to really enjoy the process of whatever you're currently dealing with.

Enjoy your Friday and indulge in whatever process you're undergoing.

Words that stuck with me:?

'To hell with circumstances, I create opportunities!' Bruce Lee. Don't get drained by your day-to-day task, enjoy what you do and do it consciously. Along the way you will find opportunities to disolve the issue and come out with a creative approach.

Reads that inspire me?

“There is a big difference between your profession and your business. I often ask people “What is your business?” And they will say “Oh, I’m a banker”. Then, I ask them if they own the bank? And they usually respond “No, I work there” (…)?A problem with school is that you often become what you study (…) The mistale in becoming what you study is that too many people forget to mind their own business. They spend their lives minding someone else’s business and making that person rich”?- Rich Dad, Poor Dad – Robert Kiyosaki?

Chasing you inner Superhero?'You can't foresee all the consequences of your actions - but this is no excuse to do nothing' - Green Lantern.
