Mind Your Discipline

There is nothing worthwhile, game-changing, important or long-lasting that can be accomplished without discipline.

Discipline means:

  • Working on your goal or dream when you feel like it.
  • Working on it when you don’t feel like it.
  • And working on it no matter how you feel.

You have to be all in to do anything worthy of success.

When you don’t have discipline and are not all in, your chances of success are slim.

Winston Churchill knew it.? He said,

The difference between a successful person and a failure is usually not a lack of knowledge, but a lack of discipline.

So, how do you buckle up and have the discipline to do the things, every day, that will make your life better?

Here’s some things that have helped me, and I hope they help YOU ??

First, make sure what you’re going after is realistic. It may be a little out of reach or your comfort zone, but it’s absolutely doable. Unrealistic goals are demoralizing.

Next, you must commit. Visualize your results. Keep the end in mind, write it down, post it somewhere you’ll see it, and say to yourself, “Even if I don’t feel like it, I’m doing it again today. No excuses”

You may also need to say, no, to a lot of other things you feel like doing instead. But by doing this, you will more easily keep your focus on the goal.

And last, but certainly not least, make sure you have a good support system. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you when your belief may start to wane. You don’t need false hope. But you don’t need Debbie Downer either.

So, here’s your Action Item and Mission, should you decide to accept it:

Got something big in your life that you want to bring to fruition and succeed at?? You’re going to need discipline. Incorporate the steps I just outlined. Because without discipline, you’ll drift, and your goals will continue to stay out of reach.

I know there is nothing exciting about discipline. It’s routine. It can be boring. It can seem like it’s not having any effect.

But look at the pride on the face of a business founder who started broke and went on to have great success.

Or the marathon champion, who didn’t hit the snooze button on those rainy, cold, dark mornings where discipline was required.

You can do this. It takes some effort. But nothing worthwhile comes easily.
