Mind the Gap

Understanding the Gender Pensions Gap is one thing (basically the thing is that women have around 1/3 less than their male counterparts saved into a pension plan according to the DWP).

The secondary thing is what to do with the knowledge once you have it, especially as an employer? You can't just pay more in contributions to one demographic of employee without valid reason, and part of the issue is that male's seem to have chosen to pay more in themselves (although this may hide higher contribution figures for senior execs which are no doubt weighted towards males).

So what's the answer then I hear you say? Well it's not a a particularly easy one to solve this - but the one thing that you can be sure of is that it's unlikely that female employees are particularly aware of the fact or have an easy way to try and target a suitable level of income.

Understanding raises it's head and of course I would say that bearing in mind we provide the solution to this sort of education within the workplace but it's also true. You can't solve something without first understanding whether it's actually a problem in the first place or a quirk of numeracy.....so the numbers may be right, but let's at least highlight the issue in the workplace and allow people to understand it and solve it if it is.....
