Mind the gap.

Master your Mindset | Helping you gain clarity and confidence so you can stop doubting yourself and live a life that truly fulfils you. Self-Confidence & Inner-Freedom Coach ??
I spent a few days London recently and I was told 100 times to:
“Mind the gap”.
Which reminded me of a powerful distinction by Dan Sullivan (and Benjamin Hardy):
"The Gap" vs "The Gain"
How often do you find yourself never being satisfied with what you have??
How often do you feel that you’re not where you should be?
That whatever you do never feels enough???
Well this is probably because you are in “The Gap”.?
According to Dan Sullivan, “The Gap” is:
A lens in which you measure “what is” against “what could be”.
It’s where you measure yourself or your situation against an ideal.?
And as long as you stay in the gap, you’ll never be truly satisfied with your life.
You’ll collect achievements but never be able to enjoy them.?
You’ll make progress but you’ll often feel worse off.
And worst of all, you’ll miss out on the only moment that truly exists: the here and now.?
But what’s the alternative? How do you actually “mind the gap”??
You do that by changing the way you measure yourself and your experiences.
You shift your focus from “The Gap” to “The Gain”.?

Instead of measuring yourself against an ideal, you measure yourself backwards.?
You measure yourself against your past self, against your gains.
You focus on progress, reflect on your learnings, you look at how you’ve grown and evolved as a person.?
Because what you focus on grows.?
If you focus on what you don’t have, you’ll never have enough.
But if you focus on what you have, you’ll always have more.?
In “The Gain” you are the creator of your experience, you choose to see life as happening FOR you instead of TO you.
This means you are always learning, always getting better and being more appreciative of your achievements.?
Which in turn will lead to more achievements and a higher likelihood of you reaching your goals.
So if you are tired of never being satisfied with your life:
Try changing the way you measure yourself and your experiences.
Look for evidence (no matter how small) of your progress and use it as fuel to keep on going.?
Much love,
Alex

10 个月Alex ?stergaard I love this analogy, Alex! We live in such competitive times and everyone is always looking over their shoulders at how everyone else is doing. Trying to find an edge. Keeping up with the Joneses. The only person we should be competing with is our past self.
