Setting minimum and maximum times for tasks is a powerful strategy to enhance productivity and maintain focus. The essence of this approach lies in its simplicity and adaptability to various types of work and personal tasks.
Min Times
For tasks you tend to procrastinate on or avoid, establishing a minimum time commitment, say 15 minutes, can significantly lower the barrier to getting started.
It's about telling yourself, "I only need to spend 15 minutes on this task today." Often, starting is the hardest part, and once you've begun, you may find it easier to continue beyond the minimum time.

Max Times
On the other hand, for tasks where you find yourself getting lost in the details, potentially spending hours without realizing it, setting a maximum time limit is crucial. This could be 45 to 55 minutes, after which an alarm reminds you to take a break or move on to something else.

This practice isn't just about preventing over-focus on a single task; it's also a form of self-care, ensuring you take necessary breaks throughout the day.

?? If you spend a lot of your week on a certain type of task, like meetings, you could set a maximum number of hours per week for meetings. Depending on your role, this could range from 50% to 70%.
These techniques are not just about managing time but also about managing your energy and attention. They encourage a more balanced approach to work and personal tasks, making sure that you're not neglecting one area for another. It's about creating a rhythm in your day that aligns with your natural energy levels and cognitive capacities.
Implementing min and max times can transform how you approach your to-do list, turning it from a source of stress into a manageable and even enjoyable set of challenges.
