?I don’t post much to LinkedIn, but I want to take the opportunity to raise awareness and appreciation for the design, construction and deployment of the U.S. Navy’s fleet of aircraft carriers. November is the month where we acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of our fleet, especially the men and women who serve and serve aboard these great ships. It is also important to recognize the men and women who design, build and maintain these technological marvels.
?For more than 50 years, Milwaukee Valve has manufactured valves for use on United States Navy warships. Built in a state-of-the-art Wisconsin foundry and manufacturing facility, these valves are held to the highest quality standards to ensure the safety of US war-fighters.
?Each year, we join our partners in the Aircraft Carrier Industrial Base Coalition (ACIBC) in a salute to National Aircraft Carrier Month. The ACIBC represents more than 2,000 businesses from 46 states that supply parts, equipment and services for the construction and maintenance of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. In addition to securing US interests and world peace, aircraft carriers represent thousands of jobs in the shipyard and downstream with the suppliers.
?For Milwaukee Valve, the commitment to the Navy starts in our foundry, which features the most advanced technology available, required to pour five different bronze alloys and Monel. The metallurgical skills necessary for these various materials are unique to Milwaukee Valve, affording US Navy and our commercial and industrial customers with expertise and experience not readily available elsewhere.
These valves are installed on all U.S. Navy ship platforms, including Nimitz- and Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, DDG destroyers, and the entire submarine arsenal. Milwaukee Valve was especially honored to have played a role in building the newly commissioned USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the lead ship of her class of U.S. Navy supercarriers. Gerald R. Ford?was delivered to the Navy on May 31, 2017 and formally commissioned by?President Donald J. Trump?on July 22, 2017.?Her first deployment is expected in 2022.?

?The Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), is the first ship of the Ford-class, which is the first new design for an aircraft carrier since the Nimitz-class. The ship has flight deck revisions, improved weapons handling systems and a redesigned island, all to designed to increase aircraft sortie rates. The?Ford-class also features new nuclear power plants, increased electrical power-generation capacity, allowances for future technologies, and reduced workload for sailors, all of which will translate to a smaller crew size and reduced operating costs for the Navy.
In addition to the Ford, the USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) was christened in 2019. The USS Enterprise (CVN-80) is scheduled to begin construction next February, and in August of this year, the ceremonial first cut was executed for the newest addition to the Ford-class fleet… the USS Doris Miller (CVN-81).
Please join me this month in celebrating the values, accomplishments, and contributions of U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers; the courage, industriousness and sacrifices of the men and women who serve aboard them, and the skilled workers who build these technological marvels that help to keep us safe.
Happy National U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier Month!
