Milliken-Inspired Transformation of Ultimate Security HQ.

In the realm of interior design, inspiration can sometimes originate from the most unexpected sources. Such was the case when the vibrant fit-out project for the new headquarters of Ultimate Security in Sydney was undertaken.

Featuring the #Creo and #MajorFrequencyOne Collections.

The vision for this open-plan workspace, designed to serve the company’s present and future needs, was significantly influenced by a Milliken carpet sample. The partnership between the designer, Inspired Spaces Aust and Milliken paved the way for a transformation that surpassed initial aspirations.

The Catalyst for Creativity.

The Creo range by Milliken was discovered when researching carpet options for the project. The inspiration was immediate, and the rest of the colour palette flowed naturally from there. “I happened upon the Creo range by Milliken and the key account manager, Glenda Cathersides , provided samples,” reveals Robyn Hawke , founder of Inspired Spaces. “Once I saw these samples, I had to use the product! From this, the rest of the colour palette was devised.”

The Creo range, reminiscent of Brazil’s famous street art, offers a vibrant canvas to work with and – in keeping with Milliken’s focus on giving designers choices that allow them to express themselves – is offered in three colourways and three pattern families. Hawke was inspired by the warm focal tones and powerfully dynamic secondary shades of the Sao Paulo colourway, and the painterly strokes of the Rua Field and Beco Field patterns. The resulting scheme for the 2,000 sqm space would become a visual masterpiece, brought to life through a fearless exploration of colour and pattern.

The monochromatic backdrop provided by Milliken’s Major Frequency: One collection created a perfect canvas for the bold bursts of colour and patterns from the Creo range. It was an inspired choice that allowed the team to push boundaries, introducing a sense of joy and happiness into the workspace. The client trusted the vision and allowed for the creation of something unconventional but brilliant. The resulting colour palette complemented the concept of “dynamic connections” underpinning the interior design, embracing fluid, circular forms throughout the workspace.

The Use of Materiality to Inform Functionality.

The Milliken carpet collections chosen, particularly the Creo range, played a pivotal role in shaping the functional aspects of the project. The circular areas created distinct zones within the open-plan workplace. Meeting space pods were perched atop the patterned carpet, offering both functional utility and aesthetic appeal. The patterned insertions in the flooring seamlessly connected executive spaces to the open workstation areas, enhancing visual cohesion and approachability. Carefully integrating the carpets into the overall design was essential, and Milliken’s recommendations for installers ensured a clean and refined finish.

A Perfect Partnership.

Throughout the project, Milliken’s support was instrumental. The engagement with Milliken’s creative and technical teams was “fantastic and highly responsive”, remarks Hawke. This collaboration allowed for the definition of the layout and seaming diagrams without complications, ensuring a smooth installation process. The experience with Milliken was marked by impeccable service, making the project a success, “I cannot recommend Milliken enough!” says Robyn Hawke.

A Focus on Well-Being and Ergonomics.

Milliken’s modular carpet tiles not only contributed to the visual appeal of the workspace but also significantly improved its functionality. Each carpet collection comes with WellBAC? cushion-backing as standard which is able to absorb ambient sound, serving as an acoustic solution for the open-plan workplace. It effectively minimised noise transfer between different areas, creating a comfortable and productive environment for the occupants. Our carpet and LVT are more comfortable underfoot, which affects everyone in the workplace. In fact, our carpet’s WellBAC? cushion backing can reduce muscle strain by as much as 24% compared to hardback carpet, which is especially important in sit-to-stand workplaces.

Commitment to the Planet.

One aspect that sets Milliken apart is its commitment to sustainability. The Creo and Major Frequency: One collections, like all Milliken floor coverings, is part of the brand’s pioneering M/PACT? Carbon Neutral Program. M/PACT? carbon neutral products offset the raw materials and manufacturing carbon footprint* by using 3rd party Verified Carbon Standard Credits that support renewable energy and carbon reduction technologies to help fight climate change.

*as calculated and verified through a ISO14025/ISO14040 compliant LCA and published in third party EPD.

As a global company, its 2025 goals align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These 2025 goals are a benchmark to achieve more, faster. Milliken reports on its progress towards these goals each year and pushes to meet targets on Planet, Product, and People. As we look beyond 2025, we promise to do more, and continue to collaborate with others to slow climate change. Click here to read more.

At the completion of this remarkable collaboration, Inspired Spaces and Milliken have orchestrated a project that defied the ordinary. Milliken’s Creo and Major Frequency: One, a muse for creativity, transcended its role to become the cornerstone of functionality, enveloping the workspace in comfort, acoustic finesse, and well-being, whilst impacting positively on our environment. Guided by unwavering client trust, nurtured by Milliken’s supportive team, and brought to life through an innovative design philosophy, the result is nothing short of a dynamic, vibrant workspace that radiates every essence of Ultimate Security.
