Entitled. Selfish. Untested. Some common words that have been used to describe Millennials in the workplace. A better set of words used to describe Millennials would be uneasy, pessimistic, and concerned. According to a Forbes survey 43% of Millennials plan to quit their job within two years, only 28% plan to stay in their current roles for more than 5 years. Why?
Millennials are aware, optimistic and exposed to current business practices; which many of them feel are unethical and unfair. While they may be right, there are two choices, step into the evolved economy or stay in the old model and watch your JOB disappear. I am very positive about Millennials and other age groups being empowered to flip the current business model on its ear and embrace the new and evolved economy.
Here are five things that Millennials say they want out of their work life balance; They want to work for companies fixated on value, not profits, they want to know how much the company will contribute to their personal development, they want companies to share the financial reward with their employees, They want to be part of a positive workplace culture, and they want an opportunity for continuous improvement. These are not out-of- line ideals to look for in a company that you may spend a good deal of your life working for.
Here are the facts; 154 million people have jobs in the U.S., in the next 10 years 50 MILLION of those jobs will no longer be available. The world is changing quickly...are you preparing yourself? Partner with companies who can educate you on the business of the 21st century. Imagine yourself 10 years from now earning a residual income EVERY week while everyone around you is losing or leaving their jobs. Times are changing and YOU must change with them.
If you are a business owner reading this, or if you are a millennial in the workforce you have choices. Business owners want to attract and retain Millennials? Organizations that are focused on improving society, developing their workforce, providing more flexibility, promoting diversity and encouraging innovation will likely create a more motivated, productive and loyal workforce. Millennials and all other age groups, explore your options!

5 年That sure was a mouthful of OVER THINKING. How about they suit up , show up and PREFORM. Everyone wants to be an influencer and entrepreneur.... SMH. Do the hard work, keep the bullshit attitude and “feelings” to yourselves. Find someone in the company that treats people well and PREFORMS when needed. What happen to the first one at work, and last one to go home. Be glued to the hip of someone that is actually DOING something for 5 years, then and only then , you will be the GREAT one you want to be. Cut all the crap and get busy. To much OVER THINKING will always be the second one done.

5 年Great article Jennifer! The only part I would disagree with is the loss of 50m jobs of 150m in America today. The transformation of the roles, responsibilities and type of skills will be more drastic than ever but job loss will be minimal. I say this because I believe the technology driven changes if they happen in America as they should will allow us to serve the rest of the world better than ever before creating more opportunities. The largest threat to massive job loss will be the rise of the socialist mindset that will chase innovation, start ups and big job creators to other countries.
I have spoken with my 23 year old son about these issues and how his peers think. I told them that when I graduated high school there was no promise of going to college or a job or a career and certainly not wealth. I pointed out that although I am now a business director, I was once a janitor, warehouse clerk, shoe salesman and was bankrupt at 30. It took my father until he was 50 to afford to buy a house and he had to change job positions/cities many times over his career. Things have never been guaranteed, unless you were born into wealth then you had an edge. I agree that run away capitalism has destroyed what businesses where like in the 1950's & '60's when the company proudly showed who their President and VP's were and they were involved, salaries were more equitable and companies put more emphasis on employees (before we had "Human Resources"). Now venture capitalists play with companies like games pieces, buying, selling, dismantling and too often destroying.
