Millennials: "Better, Faster, Smarter"
With all of the negativity surrounding the millennial generation, some millennials are beginning to stand out and produce results. In an article recently published by Huffington Post, they highlight millennials who have really penetrated the financial market by aiming at the young demographic's wallet. They've determined a way to make investing smarter, transparent and low-cost. Everything that a millennial could ever want. They have already accumulated over 1 billion dollars in assets under management with this strategy and continue to grow!
It's these types of millennials who have figured out that we can't keep doing things the old way and expect to achieve the same results. A CEO that I knew and was very impressed with, use to say at every meeting, "Better, Faster, Smarter," with everything that we did. He was about to retire and he loved good hardworking millennials because he knew that they had the skills and the capabilities to see areas of improvement that he couldn't see himself. There are still companies out there who want you to go through their process and training because they know it works and it produces professionals. There is some truth to that, BUT NEVER consider that somebody has developed the perfect method. This is the worst mistake any employee could ever make is to assume that every process is perfect because "thats just the way it is." No matter how big the name or the reputation of the company, there will always be room for improvement.
TIPS:
- Consider your day to day routine and develop ways that will help you finish your tasks quicker and more efficiently without losing the quality of your work.
- After finishing a project or a task, take five minutes to consider what you would have done differently to make the process more efficient.
- When you have that impression of, "I know this process could be better" take it to your colleagues, managers and teammates to discuss areas of improvement.
- Take the initiative to make the processes you own better each and every day.
Whenever I ask the question, "How could someone like me get ahead in your company?" The response is almost always that same. "Figure out a way to make the company better and faster than the competition." There is a lot of opportunity out there for millennials to prove their worth. START NOW by improving the areas of your life that you have control over.
