Millennial Fieldnotes #4 : The Superpower Of Daily Writing??
Today marks the 4th month of Breakfast Bagel’s existence.
As of today, Breakfast Bagel has around 350+ people on telegram. On average, each post gets 170 views. And by most standards, this number is insignificant. But as I try to remind myself daily, each view matters. I now have the chance to share with 300 over people my take on the most important daily happenings. And I am grateful for these people who are willing to give me the time of day to share with them the key stories and be entertained by my trivia questions.
But the metrics and the numbers are not the focus of my writing today. Rather, I would like to zoom in on one specific aspect of a regular writing habit that has transformed me and given me superpowers.
The Superpower Unleashed
The power that I speak of is that I can grasp the economic zeitgeist of Singapore (at least I feel like I can)
On a day to day basis, one can hardly feel the difference. Each story feels different and separate from one another. But, after daily exposure to government press releases, news-pieces, research reports - certain themes begin to emerge and stick to my consciousness.
For example, after four months of writing - I now know that our banking system is undergoing a quiet but stellar revolution. We are on the verge of creating a ‘banking singularity’ where interoperability between banks will be the new norm. From e-wallet integration into the PayNow systems to the possible creation of a singular dashboard across all bank accounts, Singapore is moving forward from a culture of banking excellence towards spearheading banking innovation in this digital age.
Without this daily practice, my understanding of the zeitgeist will remain relatively fragmented. While I can probably still shoutout a few key stories off the top of my head in recent months, I would be walking in the fog.
As such, I have become a firm proponent of consistent writing as a gateway to mastery. If you want to master any specific knowledge domain, I would recommend the daily habit of reading and organising your thoughts in writing. Trust me, it works wonders and before you know it, you will be impressing everyone at your next family gathering while enjoying a richer intellectual life.
The question, I would like to ask my friends here- what is one area you would like to learn more about?
