"Militaries in this region require geospatial tech to gain a competitive advantage over their adversaries. "One of the key areas as echoed by Lt. Gen Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Information Systems and Coordination). Glad to meet him. #IndoPacific is indeed a theatre of rivalries. As we see space as the new frontier there must be a robust mechanism for monitoring everything. In comparison within services, the Army took it upon in sheer force to bring about radical international standards in autonomous areas in a shorter time. The Indian army has done some pivotal work in information systems which must be geared towards a next-gen smart army.
I regard such projects: Network for Spectrum (NFS) project; and Artillery Combat Command and Control System (ACCCS) by #indianarmy as transformative regarding tech absorption. NFS has provided reasonable bandwidth to the defence forces including the Indian Army (IA) which are being utilised for fast data processing, creation of data centres for multiple purposes & building redundancies. The concept of edge computing will further facilitate warfighting more effectively. Further, the Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS) known as Project SANJAY puts it as top-notch in network-centric areas.
However, the quest remains for hi-performance sensors, specially customized for the situations that the military warrants. The area opens huge potential for Indian OEMs to defence startups in hi-tech to take up the challenges. So far, there is an ample funding opportunity under several Mod/DRDO's policy thrusts such as TDF, iDEX, and even to a larger extent the "Make" category.
A close look at the neighbouring country, a marked adversary, also warrants a greater focus on the sensor part. while China still lacks in high-volume manufacturing of leading-edge logic semiconductor chips and continues to trail in memory chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, Chinese firms are catching up fast and making inroads in semiconductor design and production of legacy semiconductor chips in-house. For example, as per the global report, in 2021–2022, 55% of global semiconductor patent applications were of Chinese origin (and China’s number of applications doubled America’s) while Chinese entities surpassed U.S. and Japanese ones for semiconductor patents granted in 2022.

This demands much greater attention, especially in military areas even though the government policy prioritizes the semiconductor sector.
I will soon bring forth the futuristic elements of military transformation and how Industry responds and is ready for this, especially in indigenization efforts along with the best of military tech from the world-- from friendly countries.
