Milestones at OSI: Norbert Bockisch 25 years!

Norbert, you’ve been with Rosenberger OSI for over 25 years now. How did you start your career there?

I began my career at OSI in the development and design department. Back then, the team consisted of just Harald Jungb?ck and myself. We worked closely together and gradually expanded the team. Two of the colleagues who joined us during that time, Robert Breitenauer and Christian Hahn, are still with the company today.

You also took on a role in quality management, right?

?Yes, that’s correct. At that point, I took on the role of Quality Management Representative (QMR). We had strong external support at the time, which was especially important because our location in Hungary was being ISO certified for the first time. That was a very significant milestone for us.

?

After your time in quality management, you also gained experience in sales?

?Exactly, that was an exciting time. I worked as a technical contact for the internal sales team. It was a short but very educational stint in sales, giving me a whole new perspective on our products and how we interact with customers.

?

And then you had an overseas assignment, right?

?Yes, that was in 2011. I was fortunate enough to spend a year in the U.S. working for a sister company. It was an amazing experience, both professionally and personally. The way of working and the interactions with customers and suppliers in the U.S. are quite different compared to here.

?

What happened after you returned?

?After I came back, I took over as head of the product development department. We started to monitor development projects more closely—not just what we were developing, but also how we were doing it. We realized how cumbersome our process was when transitioning new developments into production. Even optimization efforts didn’t bring significant improvements, and we started questioning whether the framework we were operating within was part of the problem. Eventually, we found a solution in what we now know as “KOMPASS.”

?

There’s a rumor that you played a major role in the development of the KOMPASS initiative. Is that true?

?Yes, that’s true. KOMPASS was, and still is, an extremely important project for us. The term “KOMPASS” symbolizes the transformation of our company from a strictly hierarchical structure to a more process-oriented organization. Our goal was to place a stronger focus on the skills of our employees while also reducing interfaces and unnecessary bureaucracy. One of the major successes was integrating product development, process development, and the test lab into a single, streamlined development process. This has led to our projects being much more focused and efficient today.

?

That sounds like a very successful transformation. How do you see the future of the company?

?I believe that with our focus on efficient processes and the strengths of our employees, we’re well-positioned to remain competitive in the future. We’ve shown that we can continuously evolve, and I’m excited to see what the coming years will bring.

Really enjoyed the time I got to spend working with Norbert here in the US. He was always so knowledgeable about any of the products he was working on and with. Hard to replace that in today's workforce. Hope you and the family are doing well.
