As we wave goodbye to 2023, here at TOPOSOPHY, it's time to reflect on our journey and achievements. Our surroundings in Europe's cities, towns, and neighborhoods have evolved dynamically, and we're steering our course to navigate these trends while charting our distinctive path forward. This year allowed us the privilege of revisiting cherished destinations and uncovering new territories where we aim to make an impact as we step into 2024.

1. Globe-Trotting Partnerships: UNWTO and Future of Tourism Alliance?
Collaboration lies at the core of TOPOSOPHY's ethos. A noteworthy achievement this year has been our affiliation with UNWTO, a pivotal step in our joint efforts to influence the trajectory of sustainable tourism. Our work over the years has yielded remarkable projects, nurtured meaningful partnerships, and championed responsible travel practices. We have also joined the Future of Tourism Coalition, committing to its 13 Guiding Principles.?
2. Dublin Reimagined: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation with KPMG?
In the coming years, Dublin aims to attract visitors to spend longer and to explore the city more widely. Ensuring that Ireland’s capital meets these aims, involves understanding the city from every angle. For the past year we’ve collaborated with KPMG Future Analytics for Fáilte Ireland, gathering insights and consulting locally to create a comprehensive Destination Experience Development Plan for Dublin, meeting all stakeholders’ needs. We anticipate the plan’s publication in early 2024.??
3. South Dublin: Tourism's Next Frontier with KPMG
While many may be familiar with Dublin’s cobbled streets and cosy pubs, South Dublin remains lesser known - but that is poised to change. The dramatic backdrop of Dublin Mountains, and scenic provide the perfect playground for visitors to extend their visit. Working alongside KPMG Future Analytics, we’ve been developing a strategy to bring South Dublin’s visitor economy to life. We look forward to seeing the strategy published early in 2024.
4. Glasgow Unleashed: Unveiling the City's New Visitor Economy Strategy
In response to the evolving post-pandemic tourism landscape, we have helped Glasgow in refreshing its tourism strategy . The new Glasgow Tourism Strategy 2030 prioritizes sustainability, accessibility, and tourism’s role in the city’s economic recovery. It aims to enhance tourism's value to the economy, support vibrant places, and provide inclusive visitor experiences while elevating Glasgow's status as a leading international events destination.?
5. Scotland's Great Green Adventure: Unfurling the Climate Action Plan
Building on Scoland’s Destination Net Zero Action Plan, we developed a Climate Action Plan for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire’s adventure tourism, along with a practical climate action toolkit for SMEs. Our Climate Action Plan targets a low-carbon shift, aiming to lead the region's adventure tourism toward a sustainable destination for activities by 2030. This effort was part of the North East Adventure Tourism project led by Opportunity North East (ONE) in partnership with Scottish Enterprise, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, VisitAberdeenshire, and Aberdeenshire Council.
6.?The Future of Bruges: How the City Scan is Changing the Game
When shaping the future of tourism in Europe’s picturesque cities like Bruges, it requires more than office discussions. Visit Bruges sought TOPOSOPHY's aid in conducting a City Scan, a thorough assessment of the visitor experience involving industry peers familiar with tourism challenges. The project was widely praised for its in-depth insights and our recommendations, which will be used as the strategy is built and launched in 2024.??
7. Greece Goes Green: A Path to Sustainable Tourism?
Following the pandemic's aftermath and societal shifts, Greek destinations face increased pressure to tackle ongoing challenges. The Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce, central in sustainability advocacy, commissioned a study to spotlight best practices for sustainable tourism development . The study aims to provide guidelines for DMOs, strengthening Greek destinations' competitiveness. It also amplifies the Chambers' role in advocating sustainability and bolstering their active involvement in fostering sustainable practices.
8. 7th Successful Year of Dine Athens Restaurant Week: The Ultimate Culinary Journey
Dine Athens Restaurant Week triumphantly celebrated its 7th year, marking a milestone with over 40,000 enthusiasts savoring exquisite cuisines across 130 remarkable restaurants.?
Amidst challenges, TOPOSOPHY's meticulous planning and Alpha Bank and Mastercard's support elevated this culinary odyssey, amplifying community engagement and uniting diverse palates in a gastronomic celebration.
9. A New Culinary Haven: Arsakeion Food Hall's Game-Changing Concept
TOPOSOPHY, in collaboration with our client Legendary Food, leads the groundbreaking transformation of Arsakeio Megaron into Athens' inaugural Food Hall. Crafting a visionary business roadmap and curating a meticulous vendor recruitment strategy, we anticipate the imminent materialization of this innovative culinary haven. This blueprint promises to redefine Athens' dining scene, elevating the iconic Arsakeio Megaron into an unparalleled gastronomic destination.
10?. Keem Bay: Ensuring both Tourism and Nature thrive in Paradise
TOPOSOPHY designed a bespoke visitor management and sustainable development plan for the spectacular Keem Bay on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. No longer ‘off the beaten path’, a steady increase in visitor footfall has been putting Keem Bay’s limited infrastructure under pressure during peak season. TOPOSOPHY was brought in by the local council to develop a multi-agency sustainable management plan and ensure that any future development balances the needs of nature, people and the local economy.?

11. Green Blueprints: Pioneering Regenerative Cross-Border Tourism in Ireland
We were delighted to be commissioned by two neighbouring local authorities on each side of the Republic of Ireland / Northern Ireland border, to lead an activity tourism feasibility study in this cross-border region. Guided by regenerative tourism principles and informed by extensive stakeholder consultation, we led a multidisciplinary team to propose and critically appraise an 18km multi-use trail which will not only create a nature-based destination proposition, but also transform the futures for local communities living on the border.?
12. Shaping the Future of Hospitality: GR Hotel Chamber's Insightful Recommendations on STR
With the Greek government set to unveil a new regulatory framework for short-term rentals in early 2024, the challenge lies in formulating balanced rules that align with both market dynamics and societal goals. Recognising the importance of drawing insights from global experiences, the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels engaged TOPOSOPHY to conduct an in-depth review of regulatory frameworks across various European countries and cities. We have put forward concrete and tailored recommendations for the Greek context, paving the way for a level playing field within the accommodation sector.
13. Clear Path Ahead: HOTREC's Plan for a Net Zero Hospitality Sector?
We developed a "Net Zero Hospitality Roadmap " research report, a significant milestone in our commitment to a greener future for the hospitality sector. We were commissioned to develop? the study by HOTREC, the umbrella association representing the hospitality sector in Europe. The practical report has been well received by the hospitality sector SMEs as it analyzes the key challenges, opportunities, and available support for companies in the European hospitality sector aiming to achieve net zero emissions, assesses the sector's progress so far, and provides recommendations and best industry practice.?
14. Around the Table with Mastercard Returns for Another Successful Year
Toposophy orchestrated the triumphant return of "Around the Table" by Mastercard, an impactful initiative fostering a culinary journey that showcased local gastronomy and sustainable practices such as local sourcing and seasonality. 40 top Athens restaurants crafted exclusive €40 menus, elevating Greek cuisine for Mastercard cardholders. Τoposophy's strategic coordination amplified this event's success; Numerous food enthusiasts savored viral city delicacies, diving into Greece's culinary diversity.?
15. Comprehensive Restaurant Marketing Strategy & Action Plan for the Electra Hotel Group?
Toposophy's ongoing effort with the Comprehensive Restaurant Marketing Strategy & Action Plan for the Electra Hotel Group is set to continue its positive trajectory in the upcoming year. Among its pivotal tactics, the carefully organized press event for zoh?s restaurant stands as a cornerstone, aiming to sustain visibility and recognition for the Group's dining venues.
16. New Horizons: Developing Visit Belfast's Business Plan
TOPOSOPHY has been commissioned by Visit Belfast to harness the city’s energy and maximise its potential for Northern Ireland’s capital city through the development of a three year strategy and Year 1 business plan. Visit Belfast has been making great strides in sustainability and TOPOSOPHY is now helping the DMO take this commitment for growing the economy, empowering communities and protecting nature to the next level.?
17. Common Ground by TOPOSOPHY: Season 2 Unmutes the Mic?
In our podcast's riveting Season 2, we delved deep into the pulse of cities, exploring diverse themes that shape urban landscapes.
